• Banned in China: This series and Story Of Yanxi Palace were briefly censored by the Chinese government for "failing to promote socialist values". That's right: two Chinese series were banned in China.
• Beauty Inversion: Wallace Huo is made to look downright plain as the older Qianlong◊.
• Blooper: In the scene where the concubines mock Yuyan for still having the will to pretty herself up after what happened to her sons, Hailan is sitting on Ruyi’s right side next to Yuyan, and Yanwan is sitting on Ruyi’s left side next to Luyun. Their positions should be switched, as Hailan has a higher rank due to having a son. What’s weirder is that the positions were fixed in the scene where Ruyi’s pregnancy is announced.
• Completely Different Title:
  • As usual with Chinese series, the English title is nothing like the original one. In this case the official English title is so bad and misleading that fans of the series prefer to use the direct translation of the Chinese title and call it Legend of Ruyi.
  • In Japan its title is 如懿伝 〜紫禁城に散る宿命の王妃〜 (Nyōi Den ~Shikinjō ni Chiru Shukumei no Ōhi~), meaning roughly "Ruyi's Legend ~The Destined Queen Fallen in the Forbidden City~".
  • In Russia its title is Внутренний дворец: Легенда о Жуи (Vnutrennij dvorets: Legenda o Zhui), meaning "Inner Palace: The Legend of Ruyi".
• Creator Cameo: Liu Lian Zi, author of the novel the series is based on, has a very minor role as the duchess of Xianqin.
• Dawson Casting: At the start of the series Ruyi and Hongli are teenagers. Zhou Xun was 42-43 and Wallace Huo was 37-38 during filming. Justified, though, since the same actors play the characters throughout their lives, up until Ruyi's death aged 48.
• Fake Nationality:
  • Xin Zhi Lei and Li Guang Jie (Chinese) as Kim Ok-yeon/Jin Yuyan and Prince Yu/the King of Joseon (Korean).
  • None of the Mongolian characters are played by Mongolian actresses.
  • Xiangjian is from a fictional kingdom in East Turkestan. Her actress Li Qin is Chinese.
• The Other Darrin: Vivian Wu and Joan Chen replace Sun Li and Ada Choi as Zhen Huan and Yixiu.
• Recycled Script:
  • Zhen Huan and Ruyi are both stripped of their titles and demoted to a commoner at one point but they make a come back through their wits.
  • Zhen Huan is accused of infidelity and so is Ruyi. The latter actually gets framed for said crime not once but twice.
• Self-Adaptation: The screenplay is by the original novel's author, Liu Lian Zi.
• Star-Making Role: For Jing Chao (Ling Yun Che).
• Time-Shifted Actor:
  • Huangyang Tian Tian plays Ruyi as a child and Zhou Xun plays her as an adult.
  • Xu Wang Zi plays Hongli as a child and Wallace Huo plays him as an adult.
  • Wu Yu Jue plays Jingse as a child and Guan Xue Ying plays her as an adult.
• Underage Casting: Dong Jie (born 1980) plays the mother of Guan Xue Ying (born 1994).
