Trivia / Palm Springs

Go To

  • California Doubling: Palm Springs is, of course, in California, but the team that made this film revealed that they couldn't actually afford to shoot in its namesake location, using cheaper places in California to stand in for the real Palm Springs (most notably the desert the cave is in is in Joshua Tree).
  • Scunthorpe Problem: The subtitles (on Amazon Prime Video, at least) replace "glass" with "gl***".
  • Clark Kent Outfit: The shirtless version. According to Andy Samberg, during the reveal scene of Abe in Sarah's shower, test audiences were completely distracted from the reveal by Tyler Hoechlin's abs. The vfx team subsequently subtly color-corrected Hoechlin's skin tone to make the abs less noticeable. Doubly funny because Hoechlin was this muscular because of his recurring role as the trope namer, Clark Kent, in Supergirl and in preparation for Superman & Lois.
  • Direct to Video: Due to Covid-19, the film was released direct to Hulu, with simultaneous release to select drive-ins on the same day.
  • Life Imitates Art: Andy Siara, who wrote the original version of this screenplay while still a film school student, ended up having a Palm Springs wedding in Real Life. (The setting of the film was originally inspired by Siara and director Max Barbakow's observation that almost everyone they knew in LA chose to have their weddings in either Palm Springs or Ojai.)
  • Word of God:
    • Many people have asked about the ending. Andy Samberg has said that while he chooses to believe that Nyles and Sarah get their Happily Ever After, the ending was revised several times to keep it from being too saccharine, and the dinosaurs are there to intentionally leave us wondering.
    • Andy Siara, the screenwriter has said that Nyles has been trapped in the time loop for over 40 years. Sarah's time in the loop hasn't been confirmed by the cast or screenwriter.
