Trivia / Magu-chan: God of Destruction

Go To

  • Acclaimed Flop: The series generally received good reviews and gained a small but very devoted cult fanbase, causing the limited merchandise released to sell better than expected and the popularity poll to pull in a surprisingly high amount of votes surpassing that of much more popular Shonen Jump series such as Undead Unluck and Mission: Yozakura Family. It even ranked 4th over every other title published by Shueisha in AnimeJapan's user-voted "Manga We Want to See Animated" contest after the series had already ended. However, despite all this and a decent amount of push by the magazine, sales simply failed to grow at all beyond around 10,000 copies per volume, and it ultimately underperformed well below Jump's standards.
  • Creator's Pest: Naputaaku, somewhat–on the results page for the popularity poll, Kamiki (perhaps facetiously) laments that Naputaaku won, as he wanted series protagonist Magu to win instead.
  • Inspiration for the Work: According to Kamiki, the "partner creature" setup of the series was inspired by other franchises such as Pokémon, Devil Children, Gotcha Force and Medabots.
  • Spoiled by the Cast List: In November of 2020 and January of 2021, Jump's Youtube channel released voiced comics for the series. In the video description of the first chapter upload in November, Naputaaku was present in the cast list despite not debuting until chapter 3, accidentally revealing that more was on the way before it was officially announced. His voice actor, mistaking this to be intentional, also tweeted prematurely about his role.
