Trivia / Khonjin House

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Khonjin and Gino are both voiced by Connor Lavery for the majority of the show.
  • Acting in the Dark: According to Dillon Deveney, the voice of Gay Spaghetti Chef, the voice actors are given very little information as to what happens in the episodes they were recording for, and their lines would often be used in a completely different context from what they were originally given in. For example, a final line from Chef in "Jaffraud" is agreeing with the episode's titular character on their distaste towards a certain movie. What Dillon wasn't told was that a movie in question is Wreck-It Ralph, which he did enjoy.
  • Corpsing: Few of the episodes end with voice actors (usually Connor himself and Shane Maclaskey, voice of Gilmore) laughing, accompanied by characters floating off the screen. Those include "Mormon", "Heist Part One", and "Master".
  • Creative Differences: After the 7th episode, Connor wanted to write an episode where Gino would have been revealed to hate all races and religions... except for Judaism, because he was going to be Jewish. Chris Condron, Gino's voice at the time, was against this idea, as he didn't feel comfortable voicing a Jew. This resulted in Connor firing him and having to take over as the voice of Gino, although the episode all of this was caused by wouldn't be made anyway.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • "Taxi" tends to be a favorite among fans while Connor speaks heavily unfavourably of this episode.
    • Over the years, Connor came to dislike the series as a whole, reaching its peak during Season 7. In the private "Unedited" videos the descriptions bluntly state how not good the early seasons are.
    • While understanding that "Racist" had to be censored to keep channel from being deleted, Connor did not like the state it ended up in. In his opinion, the edit makes it look like the slurs themselves are the joke, something he wanted to avoid in the first place.
The description for Season 6 Unedited video: i thought it would work as a concept since ginos tirade is the set up rather than the punchline, but it failed because it hits you over the head with the idea that it is bad which just comes off as overcompensation/lack of confidence while also being vague enough for people to think the joke is just shock jock white noise. everyone wants to be a master satirist and sometimes you just godda accept that this isn't in your wheel house.
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: After the series ended, the creator uploaded one final compilation of episodes which he considered to be his favorites. Notable examples include: "Game Show", "Heist", "P.I. 2", "Disguise", "Pizza Mambo", "Gay", "Heist 3", "Amore", "Waffle House", "Master", "Bowling" and the true Series Finale.
  • Follow the Leader: Due to how easy it is to stylistically replicate along with the creator encouraging fans to "make their own Khonjin", the series has spawned many shows that affectionately follow the general tone of Khonjin House. Notable works include: Maelstrom, Ruther Apartment, and The Assylum.
  • Missing Episode:
    • Due to Creator Backlash, episodes including the seasons three finale, "10,000 Subscribers Special", "Grand Finale", "Blind Date", "Hell", "Game", the two-part "Heist 3", and "Pride Month" were all removed. Thankfully, Connor did reupload them as unlisted videos in a playlist.
    • In a bizarre case, the entire second-half of Khonjin Takes a Break was removed, which included the episodes where Khonjin becomes a Corrupt Cop, goes to prison, and joins his father in a mission to enter Heaven. The first half of the series was then placed as part of the fifth season to fill in the empty spaces created by the original missing episodes and the multi-parters from that season that were edited into into single episodes.
  • Posthumous Credit: Part of "Game Show" (more specifically, the bit where Khonjin accidentally gives Dumbass a victory) was written by David Sherman, one of Connor's friends who wrote the joke long time ago, but passed away before any of the episodes could air. He was credited in the description and by the title card text at the end of the episode.
  • Post-Script Season: Seasons six, seven, and eight, were all made after season five, which was at point considered to be the Grand Finale of the series (as it mostly wrapped up the Myth Arc involving Pent and Smack).
  • The Other Darrin: For the first season, Gino was originally voiced by Chris Condron. But from season two and onward, he is voiced by Connor Lavery.
  • Write Who You Know: On his second "Livestream to Live" stream, Connor said that he based Gino off of two people he knew. Personality-wise, Gino takes from Connor's former boss at the pizzeria he used to work in, while design and the name are taken from a person he met back when he played football, who was treated as a Memetic Badass by his colleagues.
