• Ability over Appearance: Karla was written to be a white girl, but Brandy gave the best audition and won the role.
• B-Team Sequel: Kevin Williamson intended to write the script for this too. But he was overwhelmed with commitments to Dawson's Creek, The Faculty and Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later so he had to pass. He also had to pass on writing Scream 3.
• California Doubling: Mexico stood in for the Bahamas.
• The Cast Showoff: Jennifer Love Hewitt singing karaoke. In addition to acting, Hewitt was also a pop star, enjoying a fair degree of success in Japan. Even one of her songs is used in the credits.
• Creator Backlash: Freddie Prinze Jr. has never seen the film, over embarrassment at how critics tore it to shreds.
• Refitted for Sequel: Sort of. The original ending for the first film - Julie receiving an email with "I still know" - was used as a trailer for this.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The scene where Nancy dies was originally done with Karla instead. They then decided to have Karla survive and Nancy die.
  • The published screenplay contains an extra line for Ben Willis as he falls into the grave. He says "I'll always be with you Julie" and the dirt around the grave caves in to bury him alive.
  • Henry Thomas auditioned for Will Benson.
