Trivia / Fresh Meat

Go To

  • Actor Allusion: When JP is knocked over during a demo in London he mentions that he’s okay because he’s with BUPA, referencing an opening line used in some of Jack Whitehall's stand-up shows.
    • Fresh Meat Unlocked has Howard noticing that Sabine likes watching Game of Thrones. Her actress, Jelka van Houten, is the younger sister of Carice van Houten, who plays Melisandre.
  • Actor-Shared Background: Like their characters, Greg McHugh is Scottish, Kimberley Nixon is Welsh, Joe Thomas is from Essex, and Jack Whitehall comes from a fairly wealthy background.
  • Dawson Casting: Kingsley is played by Joe Thomas, who's 29, Vod by Zawe Ashton (28), Howard by Greg McHugh (32), Josie by Kimberley Nixon (27), Oregon by Charlotte Ritchie (23) and JP by Jack Whitehall (24). With the exception of Howard, all of them are supposed to be 18/19 years old.
  • Deleted Scene: There's a deleted scene from the final episode where the gang meets up again via a Skype call three months after graduation to discuss their lives (and reveal that Howard ended up moving in with JP and Kingsley because his prospective flatmates were too "weird"). Most agree with it being cut and prefer the melancholic, but realistic open-ending final scene with Josie.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: The protest in Series 1 seems to have been inspired by the student demonstrations in response to the decision of the Conservative Prime Minister at the time, David Cameron, to increase the cap on university tuition fees. Both Cameron and deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, whose party, the Liberal Democrats, had previously pledged to abolish the fees, drew a large amount of ire from English and Welsh students. In Fresh Meat, protesters carrying anti-Cameron and anti-Clegg signs can be seen in the background.
