Trivia / Fair Game (1995)

Go To

  • Box Office Bomb: Budget, $50 million. Gross, $11,534,477.
  • Creator Backlash: For the most part Cindy Crawford took the movie's failure in stride, but she said she was furious that the director was an inexperienced first-timer and nobody told her, especially given she herself didn't have much acting experience and was relying on his direction.
  • Creator Killer: Andrew Sipes, this film's newcomer director, never made another movie.
  • Missing Trailer Scene: About half the trailer for the film is made up of scenes not in the film, like Kate saying Kirkpatrick hasn't tried to kill her yet and his replying "The night's still young," her later saying that line to him, and Kate telling him she doesn't know how to use a gun. By the way, Cindy Crawford and Salma Hayek never appear in the same scene (sorry).
  • The Other Marty: Michael Kamen originally scored the movie. Mark Mancina replaced him.
  • Star-Derailing Role: This film derailed the momentum William Baldwin had throughout the first half of the 90s, and killed Cindy Crawford's acting career before it can even begin.
  • Troubled Production: In a 2013 interview, Cindy Crawford claimed that director Andrew Sipes stopped communicating with the cast after three weeks of shooting. Crawford had only been cast after producer Joel Silver all but begged her to star, and the lack of direction was especially harmful to Crawford's performance given her lack of acting experience. Disastrous test screenings forced a delay while reshoots were conducted, which drove the film's final cost to an estimated $50 million. The final film was panned by critics with many pointing to the script and Crawford's performance in particular, and only made $11 million at the box office. It was the first and only director job for Sipes, and Crawford returned to modeling and fashion outside of some minor roles through the years.
  • Written by Cast Member: Salma Hayek didn't like her character's dialogue and re-wrote it all herself.
