Trivia / Evil Dead (2013)

Go To

  • Development Hell: A direct sequel to this movie was in various stages of discussion since its release. Evil Dead Rise finally released a decade later, but it has no direct connection to the original films or the remake.
  • Dye Hard: Jane Levy, who plays Mia, is a redhead.
  • Enforced Method Acting: The scene with blood-vomiting was done by covering the actress in fake blood—to the point she nearly drowned!
  • Fake American: Elizabeth Blackmore (Natalie) is from Australia. Jessica Lucas (Olivia) is Canadian.
  • Playing Against Type: Jane Levy's best known for being a snarky, redhead teen on Suburgatory, being in a movie with Victoria Justice, and looking eerily identical to Emma Stone. This came completely out of left field. Came full circle when this film, Don't Breathe, and Castle Rock made her more known as a horror actress, which made it Playing Against Type when she returned to more lighthearted TV with Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The original idea for the Abomination, the Final Boss, was for it to be a hideous amalgamation of the bodies and faces of the five possessed people so far. They ended up being unable to make this work, but the concept was eventually realized for Evil Dead Rise with the Marauder.
    • The original idea for The Stinger had Mia meeting Ash, the hero of the original Evil Dead trilogy, thus making this movie a Stealth Sequel instead of a Continuity Reboot. In the finished version, Ash does make a cameo, but not in any sort of context with the rest of the film.
    • Sam Raimi et al. discussed making more Darker and Edgier Mia movies and more Narm Charm Ash movies, with the two eventually crossing over in a way that would be (presumably) spectacularly odd. The latter idea later became the 2015 TV series Ash vs. Evil Dead. Director Fede Alvarez appears to have moved on from the franchise to focus on Don't Breathe and its sequel, while the franchise itself would instead receive a new film in the original continuity (though without Ash), Evil Dead Rise.
    • The original ending saw Mia make it out of the woods and onto the road, where she was rescued by a truck driver and his wife. On the way to the hospital, she would have opened her eyes to reveal that she was a deadite before the film cut to black.
