Trivia / Blasphemous

Go To

  • Life Imitates Art: According to the developers, much of the inspiration behind the game lies in Spanish iconography, from "A Procession of Flagellants" to the skyline of the city of Seville, Spain.
  • Dueling Games: Blasphemous is extremely similar to Unworthy, which is also a 2D side-scrolling Hack and Slash Metroidvania inspired by Dark Souls and whose plot centers around a Corrupt Church / Religion of Evil. The latter came out in May 2018; Blasphemous is yet to release as of the time of writing.
    • Then, Dark Devotion also forms an interesting counterpart to both of the above, as while it shares the same inspirations in terms of its gameplay, its themes are diametrically opposed to either, treating religion as a way to salvation, and heresy and sin as the gateway to doom, instead of considering religion as the problem in the first place.
