Trivia / Blackadder SS 2 Blackadders Christmas Carol

Go To

  • Acting for Two: A few examples in addition to Rowan Atkinson and Tony Robinson respectively playing four different members of the Blackadder and Baldrick families.
    • As well as providing the opening narration, Hugh Laurie plays Prince George in the Regency segment and Prince Pigmot in the future segments.
    • Patsy Byrne plays Elizabethan and future versions of Nursie.
    • Stephen Fry plays Lord Melchett in the Elizabethan segment and Lord Frondo in the future segments.
    • Miranda Richardson plays two queens — Elizabeth I in the Elizabethan segment and Asphyxia XIX in the future segments.
  • Edited for Syndication: Most versions edit Baldrick's speech about a dog being used as Jesus for the Nativity play to remove a line in which Baldrick says the dog will be nailed to a cross for Easter. The earliest known case of this edit was on its first rerun in December 1989. The same version was used for later terrestrial broadcasts when the special aired on Christmas in the years 1998, 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2012. The edited version is also seen in the Blackadder Ultimate Edition DVD set, on the UK channel Gold since 2018 (the uncut version was screened until 2017) and, as of 2016, is on Hulu Plus. The original uncut version can be seen on the Region 1 U.S. DVD set, and on the U.S. and UK versions of Netflix.
  • Fake Nationality: Jim Broadbent as the German Prince Albert.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: If you think the DVD version is safe, think again. The Blackadder Ultimate Edition DVD set has it cut. The good news is that Netflix (United States feed), the Region 1 (American) DVD version that's not the Blackadder Ultimate Edition DVD set, and the UK channel Gold have aired the original version.
  • You Look Familiar: Miriam Margolyes (Queen Victoria) had previously played the Spanish Infanta in "The Queen of Spain's Beard" and Lady Whiteadder in "Beer". Also, Jim Broadbent (Prince Albert) had played Don Speekingleesh in "The Queen of Spain's Beard", while Robbie Coltrane (the Spirit of Christmas) was Samuel Johnson in "Ink and Incapability".
