For the animated series:
- Accidentally-Correct Writing: One episode has Bill saying that an orange's color is the same as its name, "just like a lemon". Lemon is indeed a real color.
- Channel Hop: From CBS to Fox between the first and second seasons. with a studio change from Hanna-Barbera* to DiC Entertainment.

- Keep Circulating the Tapes: A DVD set was released containing eight episodes from the first season and the entire second season. The remaining five missing episodes have yet to see any official reissue. However on Roku, all the episodes of the first season are free to watch.
- The Other Darrin: New actors (Chris Kennedy, Evan Richards and Rick Overton) replaced the voices of Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter and George Carlin for the second season due to the different cast used for the similarly named live action Fox TV show.
- Role Reprise:
- Alex Winter, Keanu Reeves and George Carlin reprise their roles as Bill, Ted and Rufus from the movie.
- Season 2 had them voiced by Evan Richards, Christopher Kennedy and Rick Overton, who also played them in the live-action series.

- Tie-In Cereal: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures had their own cereal called "Bill & Ted's Excellent Cereal."
For the live-action series:
- Disowned Adaptation: Alex Winter (who played Bill in the movies) went on The Arsenio Hall Show in 1991. When talking about the series, he responded, "It stinks, ladies and gentlemen".
- The Other Darrin: New actors (Chris Kennedy, Evan Richards and Rick Overton) replaced Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter and George Carlin as Ted, Bill, and Rufus, respectively.
- The Shelf of Movie Languishment: The series was filmed in 1991 and intended to air on Fox's primetime lineup for the 1991-92 season, but was delayed until Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey made enough money at the box office. All seven episodes were burned off in the summer of 1992.
