  • Diemen's route shows in the first volume shows that he may seem rather cheerful on the outside, but he starts crying when he talks about the fact that his home was destroyed and his lusus was killed. And if that wasn't bad enough, his bad ending has you accidentally killing him.
  • Cirava may be a Jerkass, but they have their reasons. They've had "Friends" in the past who have tried to take advantage of their psionic powers, to the point where they removed their own eye just to avoid it. They're distrustful of anyone who tries to be their friend in case they get taken advantage of again.
  • On Skylla's route, if you stop her from going outside when her lusus gets kidnapped, she'll end up being unable to rescue her, as the lusus is taken away and she is given a ransom that she doubts she'll be able to pay as a lowblood. She then asks you to leave, because you'll remind her too much of the event that lead to her potentially being orphaned.
  • Polypa's route reveals that before she became an assassin, her hive was attacked by some trolls that she suspected were on drugs, her lusus was killed, and her legs were broken. She says she would have starved to death if a Tealblood who was implied (and later confirmed) to be Tegiri hadn't rescued her.
  • Chixie's route shows her as a singer who often gets passed over in favour of singers and bands of higher blood castes. She often looks sad and has nervous smiles, and it doesn't help that some of her fans (Especially Zebruh) give her unwanted flattery. Even the music for her route sounds rather melancholy. And then the band that got to perform instead of her turns out to have stolen one of her songs, though you can help her do something about it...
Chixie: (in tears) it's all over / nobody is going to believe i wrote this music / some dirtblood country girl
  • The bad ending of Boldir's route involves her getting poisoned, and the MSPA Reader being unable to help her as she dies.
  • Karako's bad ending has him attacking some Violetbloods who made fun of him, only for them to fight back and kill him. This despite the fact that he's most likely the youngest Troll Call troll. And then a carousel seemingly appears from the sky and takes him away. When the Reader tries and fails to avenge him, they get killed and the carousel takes them away too, where they then believe that friendship can still exist even beyond death.
  • Wanshi's bad ending has the Reader taking her to a convention, only for a cholerbear to suddenly run in and start killing the congoers. Wanshi, being a young, innocent kid, can do nothing; instead, the Reader hugs her, throws her out of the way, and kills the cholerbear with a katana, only for its corpse to crush the Reader to death. The last thing they see is Wanshi staring down at their corpse.
    • In Wanshi's good route, the Reader takes her to where their spaceship crashed. Shortly afterwards, they and Wanshi get in an argument, and at one point Wanshi angrily says that if Earth is such a cool planet, the Reader should just go back there then. The Reader can only stare at their spaceship (which, even if it hadn't crashed, has long since been plundered for parts, so there's no hope of repairing it) in misery. Wanshi apologises, but she did hit a nerve.
  • Daraya's bad ending brings her and the MSPA Reader to an abandoned mall in a city, the citizens of which were culled by the Condesce long ago. If that wasn't depressing enough for you, it ends with Daraya succumbing to her hopelessness and nihilism and burning the mall (and presumably herself) down to the ground.
    • Even Daraya's good ending has one of these: Tyzias tells her that she believes she's changing the future of Alternia for the better. Considering the planet's eventual fate...
  • In both of Lanque's routes Lynera, in an attempt to branch out and be more friendly, invites the MC to a party. In Lanque's NSFW route you get to see her ruthlessly insulted to the point she literally runs away in tears.
  • The Soleil twins don't have any friends, not even other purplebloods. They don't even know what a friend is, before they meet the Reader.
  • The epilogue, where the MSPA Reader ends up visiting Doc Scratch, and he reveals that their desperation for friendship was caused by him. He then takes it away, which leaves them confused, lonely, scared, and even angry about whether they really wanted to befriend all those trolls or not. They also struggle to remember the good times they had, and it's implied that they and all the other trolls are losing their memories of the Reader ever having visited. It doesn't help that they are once again wearing Mallek's hoodie that he gave them, which will be the only reminder that all this ever happened.
    • It gets even worse if you assume that the MSPA Reader's scenes in Homestuck canonically take place after the events of the Friendsim, where they are no longer wearing the hoodie. This also implies that they will eventually be Driven to Suicide after considering it multiple times, if their lack of appearances after "MSPA Reader: Mental Breakdown" is anything to go by.
      • However, the announcement of a sequel reveals that the MSPA reader still has the hoodie, and actually read through all of Homestuck and the Epilogues, which negates it a bit.
