Tear Jerker / Bret Hart

  • When reading Bret's autobiography, his time from the Montreal Screwjob until his father's death makes you feel really bad for him.
    • If we were to make a list of all the things that happened between 1996 to 2003 in Bret's life few of them would be very happy things. Very close friends such as Brian Pillman, Rick Rude and Curt Hennig die, his career ending concussion, he suffers a stroke, his mother, father, nephew Matt and youngest brother die, he has a painful divorce with his first wife.
      • Special mention should go to Owen's death, which more or less broke his family apart. In The Death of WCW, the author recounts Bret as having lost so much in the business that he just didn't have the heart to go on.
  • March 31, 1997: Bret reunites with Owen and The British Bulldog live on Raw. Bret gives a great promo about how the American fans, who "don't know the first thing about family values" (obviously, this was after his anti-American Faceā€“Heel Turn), turned his family against him. It becomes an emotional moment for the three of them, and had it happened a year before, it would've been a Heartwarming Moment instead. But instead, the fans shower the big Man Hug with boos, giving credence to Bret's words and leaving the reunion as the image of a Fallen Hero scraping together all he has left. Yeah, they were heels, but there's just something tragic about this angle.
    • Becomes Harsher in Hindsight considering that within a few years, Owen and Davey Boy both left us way too soon.
      • Even more Harsher in hindsight when you learn about how much Owen's death tore the Hart family apart and how it left many of the members borderline despise each other. Bret and Davey boy especially were not in a good place in their relationship during the time that Davey died. This would obviously pain Bret much after the fact.
    • Speaking of the 1997 Hart Foundation, Bret is now the only surviving member, with Jim Neidhart having passed away in August of 2018.
  • At the Hall of Fame 2019 Ceremony, The Hart Foundation was being inducted, and as Bret was giving his speech, a crazed individual leaped into the ring and tackled the Hitman. It was haunting those watching the incident live stream, the screen cut to black and when that happens, something really happened that wasn't part of the show. Luckily, everyone around managed to get that crazed individual away (and even took hard jabs at him as well), and Bret managed to finish his speech, but it's unfortunate to now think that the moment where his late friend and Natalya's father (who she herself was there next to Bret when this all happened) will always be remembered for this selfish and scary moment.
    • And given where we saw Bret next, you have to wonder if this was at last the straw that broke the camel's back permanently.
      • On the other hand, Bret was scheduled to induct Davey Boy Smith into the Hall of Fame in 2020 before it was cancelled.
