The Dinosaurs is a 1992 documentary airing on PBS. Its about... well, guess. It focuses on then-current theories and ideas about dinosaurs.

This documentary provides examples of:

  • Artistic License – Paleontology: Here and there, though a lot of it does come from Science Marches On then anything else.
  • Colony Drop: The asteroid impact that causes the K-Pg extinction, of course.
  • Four Is Death: In the four-part series, the final part is called "Death of the Dinosaurs" and it focuses on their extinction.
  • Kill Steal: One animation shows a pair of Herrerasaurus hunting down and killing a Hyperodapedon, only for a Saurosuchus to chase them away and claim the carcass for itself. This is to demonstrate that dinosaurs faced major competition from other archosaurs during the Triassic Period.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: In one animation, a Ceratosaurus tries taking on a Stegosaurus, but flees when it becomes clear the herbivore can and will defend itself quite well.
  • Social Ornithopod: The various hadrosaurs in the animation sequences are never shown alone.
  • Temper-Ceratops: There's animated sequence of an aggressive Triceratops (implied to be male) attacking a family of T. rex. note  Things don't end well for it.
  • Tough Armored Dinosaur: One animation has a Stegosaurus successfully fight off a Ceratosaurus.
