Recap / Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS Ep 49 Duelist Clad In Flames

Go To

As Playmaker chases after Bohman, the Duelist who stole Jin's consciousness, two Duelists appear before him and block his path. However, a mysterious Duelist called Soulburner then shows up to help Playmaker. And what's more... Soulburner also has an Ignis in his Duel Disk!

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Blame Game: After BitBoot's defeat, they separate back into Bit and Boot, and the two claim that the other is at fault for losing.
  • Fusion Dance: Bit and Boot combine to form a single being, BitBoot. Their D-Boards also combine into one.
  • Gratuitous English: Bit and Boot exclaim to each other "You are fired!", in English, which becomes ironic when Haru literally fires them.
  • Loophole Abuse: While Skills can generally be activated only once per Duel, BitBoot are able to use Marker's Portal twice since they are two separate individuals in one body. Lampshaded by Soulburner, who accuses them of straight up cheating.
  • Magical Incantation: The Reincarnation Link Summoning of Salamangreat Heatlio is accompanied by a unique Summoning chant.
Surging flame, awaken Heatlio's true strength with the power of purification! Reincarnation Link Summon! Resurrect, the king of beasts that runs through the fire prairie! Salamangreat Heatlio!
  • Monster of the Week: Bit and Boot are the main adversaries in this episode, working for Haru's faction and initially intended to Duel Playmaker, until Soulburner arrived in his place to keep the pair at bay. After Soulburner defeats the two, they are quickly dismissed by Haru.
  • No-Sell: Because Judgment Arrows was activated via the Marker's Portal Skill, it doesn't get destroyed by Salamangreat Foxy's Effect.
  • Not Hyperbole: Haru uses actual fire to fire Bit and Boot
  • The Reveal: Akira notes that Soulburner has a deck composed of Cyberse-Type Monsters, and deduces that he was one of the six hostages from the Lost Incident/Hanoi Project.
  • Summon Bigger Fish: The entire premise of BitBoot's D-Scale deck, though their monsters are actually Cyberse, not Fish.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: Haru gets away scot-free, losing Playmaker's trail by bypassing a restricted area without triggering its emergency defense program.
  • Wham Shot: Soulburner performing a Reincarnation Link Summon, a new variation of Link Summoning.
  • You Are Too Late: By the time Soulburner arrives at the entrance of the restricted area, Haru has already escaped into the restricted area without triggering its emergency defenses.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Bit and Boot are both fired by Haru after they lose to Soulburner.
