Tropes

  • Affably Evil: Mark, the vulture that robs Quiet, is genuinely friendly and polite to her. He even gives her advice on her relationship with John and tells her about his own ex-girlfriend.
  • Apology Gift: Amber gives John flowers to give to Quiet.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Mark lampshades the impracticality of his post-apocalyptic armor, which is made from a bunch of tires. Still, he keeps wearing it for the aesthetic.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Flower Power shoots Mark right when he's about to rob Quiet.
  • Boom, Headshot!: Mark the vulture takes a crossbow bolt to his head.
  • Fragile Speedster: Quiet and John argue about how to equip their new car. Quiet wants to sacrifice armor for heavy weapons, arguing that armor won't be necessary if John's fast enough.
  • Freudian Threat: When the Lawmen spring their ambush, Carl Roberts exclaims that he's going to make truck nuts out of John's ballsack.
  • Mighty Glacier: Quiet and John argue about how to equip their new car. John argues that what limited weight the car can carry should be used on armor.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • John says that every car has weapons, armor, speed and handling. These are the stats of drivers in the Twisted Metal games.
    • John and Quiet's new car is named "Roadkill" which is John Doe's car in Twisted Metal: Black.
  • Rousing Speech: Stone gives one to his assembled officers before setting up a trap for John and Quiet.
Stone: My grandfather was a rancher. Cattle. He had a huge herd, hundreds of animals. Cattle, they're delicious, of course. Cheeseburgers, whatnot. But you know what else they are? They're dumb. If you leave a gate open, these stupid assholes will just wander through, eat your crops, destroy property, shit all over the place. Hell, they'll even shit on each other. Like I said, dumb. Like Carl. But my grandfather also had dogs, strong, proud, fierce. A dog can control these beasts, move 'em from pasture to pasture. A stray runaway, they bring that stray back. They were in control. Now we have strays in our herd. The mute, the milkman, they defy us! This is our land! These are our roads! We're the dogs; we control the herd! We will never go back to the way things were. Never! Am I right? [the officers cheer] Bababooey.
