The kids hear of a bubblegum blowing contest where the winner gets a free toy car. Courtney and Leshawna are eager to win it, but Sugar starts sabotaging their efforts. Meanwhile, Duncan tricks Cody into setting off the gum volcano and floods the school with gum lava.
- Asleep in Class: Chef uses a photocopy of his face to look like he's awake when he's supposed to be teaching. Meanwhile, Courtney learns that all the other kids do the same when she starts trying to teach them things.
- Brick Joke: Before Cody throws the "wishing candle" Duncan gave him into the volcano, he wonders what he wished for. At the end of the episode, after he wins the gum bubble contest, he guesses that his victory is what Duncan wished for.
- Crippling the Competition: In true pageant queen fashion, Sugar starts knocking the others into the gum lava, reasoning that if she can't win fairly, she can win by being the only competitor left standing.
- Darkhorse Victory: Cody ends up legitimately winning the gum bubble contest, in one of the few times he ends an episode in a better position than he started.
- Epic Fail: Sugar's attempts a blowing a gum bubble results in her spitting out a chewed up wad of gum.
- Gilligan Cut: After Cody throws the "wishing candle" (read: lit dynamite stick) into the gum volcano, he wonders what Duncan wished for. Cut to Duncan watching the eruption with tears in his eyes."Wishes really do come true!"
- Giving Someone the Pointer Finger: Sugar's granny has told her to point at things with hate if she's blaming her failures on something else.
- I Can't Believe I'm Saying This: When Chef comes up with a way to get everyone to the game show in time, Courtney calls him a genius and then admits she never thought she'd say that.
- Instantly Proven Wrong: After the gum volcano erupts, Harold declares that there is nothing to worry about because the lava is moving really slowly. No sooner does he finish that sentence does the lava rush in and trap him.
- Karma Houdini: One of the few episodes where Duncan gets away with making things worse for everyone, as him causing the gum volcano to erupt makes things much harder for everyone else.
- Laser-Guided Karma:
- Chef tricks the kids into blowing up their original toy car as payback for all the times they've blown up his car. A piece of the exploded toy car proceeds to fall out of the sky and wrecks Chef's car.
- Cheaters Never Prosper: Sugar tricks Owen into falling into the gum lava and uses him and Jude as springboards. Courtney and Leshawna are able to use their gum bubble skills to bounce her into the gum lava when she comes at them.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Gwen locks herself in her egg chair after the gum lava floods the school.
- Shout-Out: The set of the bubblegum blowing contest resembles that of the long-running game show The Price Is Right.
- This Explains So Much: Courtney's reaction upon learning that Chef wears a photocopied cover of his head to pretend to be awake.
- Worth It: Even though he's sinking into the gum lava, Duncan still thinks causing the eruption was worth it.
