Recap / The Omnitrix Hero S 2 E 13 Freeze Ups and Melt Downs

Go To

Gelidafur returns to Earth to get revenge for his last visit, aided by his new partner in crime Hectrix. Using an Omnitrix Access Key, they mess with the Omnitrix and trap Flash in several small alien forms. How can Flash stop them when all he has are physically weak aliens?

  • Cliffhanger: The final scene of the chapter has a plumber ship being attacked by a damaged warship, implied to belong to Vilgax.
  • Cuteness Proximity:
    • When Flash sees Flurry playing with her plush toys of his alien forms, it is in a way that is too cute for him not to love.
    • Twilight, Fluttershy, Pinkie, Rarity, and Trixie all gush over how cute Flash looks as Pesky Dust. Cadance also says the alien looks cute when she sees a picture of him.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Hectrix does this twice with his hacking of the Omnitrix.
    • First, he causes Flash to turn into a skunk alien. Flash ends up using this alien to unleash a powerful stench. Even Hectrix muses that one wasn't a good idea.
    • Second, one of the aliens he forced Flash to become was Grey Matter, as in a Galvin, the smartest race in the universe. Flash ends up using this to figure out how to take out Hectrix's suit, thus freeing the Omnitrix from its hold.
  • Evil Learns of Outside Context: Last time Gelidafur was on Earth, he was unaware of the Omnitrix and thought Flash's aliens were all Plumbers. While he was in prison though, Kraab and SixSix told him all about Flash and the Omnitrix, with Gelidafur returning to get revenge.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: When Flash and Trixie arrive at Shining's house, they find Flurry surrounded by and playing with a bunch of cuddly toys based on Flash's aliens. Cadance says she made them all after learning how much Flurry loves Flash's aliens, and now she loves them almost as much as her Whammy.
  • Instant Expert: Gelidafur is frustrated when Flash manages to beat him with a transformation of his own species.
Gelidafur: How? I've been this species my entire life. You've barely been one five minutes. How are you stronger?
Arctiguana: Guess I'm just a natural.
  • Lighter and Softer: In-Universe example; Cadance purposely made her plush toys of Flash's aliens more cute and cuddly than the real versions, since they are meant to be toys for Flurry Heart.
  • Mirror Match: Flash transforms into Arctiguana, the same species as Gelidafur, to defeat him in the climax.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • When Flash sees all the toys of his alien forms, he briefly wonders if someone is using his likeness to sell them before learning they were self-made by Cadance. This is similar to when a TV show was made that blatantly ripped off Ben's aliens.
    • The plot of Flash being stuck as physically weak aliens, and eventually unlocking a new alien scanned from one of his villains, is similar to the episode "Outbreak".
    • When Pesky Dust is inside Pinkie's dream, the dream rapidly changes to different areas. This is just like what happened in Pinkie's Equestrian counterpart's dream in "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?" with some of the exact same backgrounds visited in both dreams.
    • While struggling to get the Omnitrix to reboot, Flash muses that it needs a voice command.
    • Flash originally tries to name his Polar Manzardill transformation "Absolute Zero", with nobody else really liking it and Pinkie suggesting "Arctiguana", which Flash finds "cool". This is exactly like the exchange between Ben and Ben 10,000 in Arctiguana's debut.
    • During the climax, Flash uses Arctiguana to cool down a reactor core that was about to go critical, just like Ben did using Heatblast.note
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain:
    • Hectrix ultimately ended up ruining his and Gelidafur's plan by allowing Flash to transform into a Galvin, the smartest race in the galaxy. Similarly, Gelidafur accidentally reveals this information by shouting at Hectrix over this, when Flash was ready to accept it as yet another small alien that wasn't much use.
    • While handling Grey Matter, Gelidafur inadvertently touches the Omnitrix, triggering its sampling function and allowing Flash to become Arctiguana.
  • Not in Front of the Kid: When Rainbow says all of Flash's aliens are "badass", Cadance gives her a pointed look and points at her listening baby daughter. Rainbow apologizes for cursing in front of Flurry.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: When Flash expresses his frustration at being stuck in a bunch of weaker alien forms that can't put up a fight, Fluttershy says she knows how he feels since her magic isn't useful in a fight either. But she also explains how this doesn't make it weak, the same with his aliens, it just means they need to use them in the right way instead of focusing on what they can't do.
  • Pronoun Trouble: When Cadance sees pictures of Flash's new aliens, when she sees Pesky Dust she comments that "I'll definitely have to make a plush of her." before remembering Pesky Dust is actually Flash and he just looks like a girl in that form.
  • Smelly Skunk: One of the new aliens Flash gets thanks to Hectrix is a skunk-like alien. It ends up being similar to a regular skunk, except that it has a strange nozzle in the tip of its tail. It's also commented by everyone that its smell is extremely bad.
  • Wham Episode:
    • Flash ends up getting a total of five new aliens in this chapter: Arctiguana, Grey Matter, The Worst, Pesky Dust, and an OC skunk alien.
    • In the final scene, it's implied that Vilgax has finally returned.
  • You Fool!: Gelidafur yells this at Hectrix when he ended up allowing Flash to become Grey Matter.
