Both Will and Carlton try out for the same frat house at college. Everyone likes Will, and finds Carlton a bit of a geek.

- Armor-Piercing Question: After learning that Carlton was not allowed in the frat because of his lifestyle, Uncle Phil asks, "When are we going to stop doing this to each other?"
- Category Traitor: Top Dog sees Carlton as one due to his high-class status.
- Drill Sergeant Nasty: Top Dog was tough on the new pledges, but he really has it in for Carlton.
- Hypocrite: Top Dog would preach about unity within the Black community but was willing to denigrate another black man out of envy.
- Kick the Dog: Even after enduring the harsher trials of hazing without complaining, Top Dog told Carlton that he was never going to let him join Phi Beta Gamma and that was because he is a "sellout".
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: When Carlton finds out that he was never going to be accepted to the fraternity, he calls Top Dog out for his hypocrisy and ignorance.
Carlton: You think I'm a sellout, why? Because I live in a big house or I dress a certain way? Or maybe it's because I like Barry Manilow.
Will: (to the other frat members) Uh, he meant Barry White, y'all.
Carlton: Being black isn't what I'm trying to be, it's what I am. I'm running the same race and jumping the same hurdles you are, so why are you tripping me up? You said we need to stick together, but you don't even know what that means. If you ask me, you're the real sellout.
- Token Good Teammate: Even Top Dog's right hand man, thought that he was being unfair to Carlton and when he showed his true colors at the frat party, he finally called him out on it.
Fraternity Member: Hey look, you don't speak for the rest of us, Dog. I'mma have you kicked out of here.
