In this, the final chapter of the "Gumball and Hot Dog Guy awkward moments" saga, Gumball and Hot Dog Guy decide to embrace their awkwardness together and discover its origins.

- Art Shift: Gumball and Hot Dog Guy recover memories of past encounters, which are portrayed in stop-motion using crude, crumpled paper dolls.
- Bowdlerization: On Cartoon Network's Asian channel, two scenes were cut:
- The part where Gumball becomes Hot Dog Guy's stepfather was cut to remove Hot Dog Guy's line, "When I say, 'Take things to the next level,' I didn't mean with my mom!"
- The flashback to the infamous tent scene from "The Hug".
- Childhood Friends: A picture of a younger Gumball shows that he studied with his current classmates Banana Joe, Molly, Tobias and Leslie (and Hot Dog Guy, who's now in another class) since kindergarten.
- A Day in the Limelight: For Hot Dog Guy (the third and final installment where he and Gumball get into awkward situations, after "The Hug" and "The Awkwardness")
- Downer Ending: Gumball and Hot Dog Guy finally air out all the cringe between them — only to end up in another awkward situation, causing the cycle to continue.
- Epic Fail: Gumball and Hot Dog Guy go on "Elmore's Got Talent", and their performance is such a disaster that when they watch it, they cringe so hard that they end up in hospital.
- The Faceless: One joke has a Flash Forward to Gumball remembering his experiences with Hot Dog Guy and as first sees his and Penny's child, but we don't see what they look like.
- Fighting Down Memory Lane: After realizing their awkward relationship stretches back to infancy, Gumball decides to fight "trauma with trauma" and have Hot Dog Guy and him physically destroy all their unpleasant memories. Fortunately this works. Unfortunately, their ''future'' selves seemingly get the same idea and do the same to them when they get in another awkward situation.
- Forgotten First Meeting: Hot Dog Guy and Gumball discover they've been awkwardly running into each other for years, going all the way back to their infancy.
- Homoerotic Subtext: Noted, as Hot Dog Guy assumes the inevitable conclusion to their awkward relationship is kissing. Gumball slaps him though.
- Naked People Are Funny: Both Gumball and Banana Joe get their moments.
- Random Events Plot: This episode goes from Gumball and Hot Dog Guy trying (and failing) not to use the bathroom at the same time (and all the Potty Emergency sub-tropes that follow) to the two trying to bond over cringe-worthy situations (such as showering together, auditioning for a reality talent show and ending up on the show's blooper reel segment, and Gumball marrying Hot Dog Guy's mom and trying to give him the sex talk, leading to a flash-forward of the rest of Gumball's life — which includes marrying Penny, being there when she gives birth, and being dead — being ruined by that one event) to the two going back in time in a cardboard box to find out why they're so awkward around each other.
- Series Continuity Error: Sarah is on Gumball's school bus in a flashback years in the past, which would be well before she transferred to Elmore Junior High. Granted, it's just a portrayed memory, so it's probably not that accurate.
