When Timmy/The Internet tries to absorb the intelligence of all humanity, he malfunctions and all technology across Elmore breaks — plunging everyone back to the Dark Ages.

Tropes:

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: The Internet's attempt to absorb all human knowledge from its users so he can Take Over the World backfires, instead making him dumber and taking down all technology with it.
  • Art Shift: The backstory of how technology broke down is illustrated by an animated medieval tapestry.
  • Burn the Witch!: Mrs. Robinson is accused of being a witch and condemned to be dunked in water (mainly by Mr. Robinson). Mrs. Jotunheim, an actual witch, joins in the chanting while hiding her broomstick behind her back.
  • The Bus Came Back: Timmy/The Internet returns since season 4's "The Love".
  • Feudal Future: The morning after all tech breaks down, Elmore has turned into a Medieval society overnight.
  • Have You Tried Rebooting?: The Internet asks Gumball to unplug him and plug him in again in order to restore everything, which is treated as a Heroic Sacrifice.
  • Ignored Epiphany: When Gumball is about to plug the Internet back in, Darwin suggests that maybe they leave it unplugged, saying that perhaps everyone would be much happier without it. Gumball disregards what he says and plugs the Internet back in, restoring technology.
  • Just Whistle: Principal Brown, Harold Wilson, and Jeff Benson (dressed as medieval hunters) give Gumball a vacuum cleaner nozzle, telling him to blow on it if he is ever in trouble. When cornered by the seniors in the library, Gumball remembers the nozzle and blows it, and the three swing in and save them.
  • New Technology Is Evil: The old folks don't want the Internet fixed because they remember how things were before and prefer to be without it.
  • Take a Third Option: After witnessing Jeff, Principal Brown, and Tobias' father acting like medieval peasants, Gumball suggests they either find out if the medieval madness in Elmore is connected to the call Timmy/The Internet made the previous night or go back to sleep. Darwin wonders if there is a middle option. Cut to them walking around town with their mattresses attached to their backs by their blankets.
Gumball: Yeah, this really just feels like a snugglier version of Option 1.
    Darwin: I'll take it.
  • Take That!: Gumball and Darwin are shown an internet ad for retirement plans specifically aimed at the Baby Boomer generation, with it mentioning how they completely destroyed the economy and they will be the last people who will even be able to retire.
  • What Could Possibly Go Wrong?: Gumball refuses to answer the Internet's distress call in the middle of the night, saying that whatever it is, it can wait until morning. He wakes up to find Elmore has regressed to the Middle Ages.
  • Ye Olde Butchered English: Mr. Brown speaks this way now that Elmore has been knocked back to the Middle Ages.
