  • Backhanded Apology: In a bid to try and seem tough like Logan, Kendall does a “I’m not sorry for what I’m doing but I’m sorry for how it makes you feel.”
  • Beneath the Mask: Logan destroys Kendall and acts like it’s a No-Sell, dropping the letter that Kendall delivers to him into the the toilet, only to actually worry about the bear hug letter when Kendall leaves and fishing the papers by himself.
  • Blatant Lies: Roman tries to ignore all the calls and texts his phone gets and acts like to Gerri that nobody told him about the rocket exploding during the launch.
  • Empty Shell: Kendall tries to be formal and robotic with Marcia and Logan while delivering the bear hug letter, but subverted when terror of openly confronting his father gets the best of him and he descends into a stuttering mess.
  • Foreshadowing: Scared he’s caused the deaths of others after the satellite launch explosion, Roman tells Gerri what happened so she can protect him. Kendall actually kills someone, and brokenly accepts Logan’s version of “protection”.
  • Generation Xerox: Thinking he’s someone else, Kendall loses his temper when Iverson comes into the room, and when he tries to apologise profusely, Rava implies it’s not the first time.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: Logan seizes the chance afforded to him by a waiter's death to make a beholden pawn out of his would-be usurper, who was caught up in the disaster.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Ken wants so badly to believe that because Logan is tough, he’s tough too. That’s not remotely the case.
  • Oblivious Guilt Slinging: After Roman watches his rocket crash, Caroline obliviously introduces him to the head of police, making him feel even more awkward. She does it again with Kendall, calling him naughty (for the takeover) when really he’s just killed a man.
  • Oh, Crap!: Roman's look when the rocket explodes.
  • Speech Impediment: Logan not only reduces Kendall to stammering, but mocks him for not being able to even say what he wants.
  • Stealth Insult: Logan makes his wedding speech less about his daughter’s wedding, and more he won’t let anyone (meaning Kendall) ruin it.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Kendall has a slow, filling with dread walk to visit Logan and deliver the bear hug letter, knowing full well it’s going to be horrific.
  • Villain Respect: Kendall is impressed with Greg's ploy to secure his place (and, no doubt, to ensure his meteoric rise) in the event of a takeover.
Kendall: You little Machiavellian fuck. I see you, Greg. I like it.
    Greg: (giddily) Hell yeah.
  • Wedding/Death Juxtaposition: Kendall is accidentally responsible for the death of a waiter at his sister Shiv's wedding reception.
  • Wham Line: Shiv reveals to Tom she slept with Nate.
