This episode aired on December 22, 2019.

Kaz, Yeager and Synara trace a distress call to a planet where a Resistance agent has gone missing.

Tropes:

  • Action Girl: Synara lampshades to Kaz that he always brings her along because she knows how to fight. He points out he's not wrong, and it turns out to be a good choice.
  • Bolivian Army Ending: The episode ends with Yeager and Synara fighting Tagrin, and the last we see of them is Tagrin setting off some sort of explosive.
  • Cliffhanger: Kaz and Norath are forced to leave Yeager, Synara, and an unconscious CB behind at the mercy of Tagrin, Tagrin sets off an explosion during his fight with Yeager and Synara, the First Order has arrived, and Doza can't send reinforcements to rescue them.
  • Continuity Nod: When Kaz suggests busting up the circuitry of Tagrin's ship to take it down, Yeager says that he still has faith that Kaz can take down any ship. Kaz still isn't sure if he should take it as a compliment or an insult.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: When Kaz finally goes up against Tagrin, he does manage to knock his blaster out of his hands, but Tagrin No Sells Kaz's punch and then slams him to the ground in one blow.
    Kaz: Owwwwww!
  • Distress Call: The plot kicks off when Kaz picks up a distress call on a Resistance frequency from the Varkana system.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: Yeager, Synara, and briefly Kaz, try to fight the larger, armored, and more combative Tagrin in physical combat and nearly get pummeled multiple times. Both times they encounter him, they're forced to leave someone behind as a distraction while the others flee.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: When Yeager warns him to keep a low profile, Kaz, with his usual overconfidence, assures Yeager that he knows exactly how to keep a low profile... and then immediately stumbles into a market stall, knocking over some of its produce and angering the proprietor.
  • No, Except Yes: Yeager tells Doza to give him and Kaz one rotation (day) to investigate the distress call, otherwise, just leave them behind. Kaz says that he should make sure they're coming back or at least just give them an extra minute, though, to which Yeager tells him that's not how it works.
  • Oh, Crap!: Kaz when he warns Doza that the First Order is on its way, only to be told they've already arrived.
  • Punny Name:
    • Ax Tagrin is derived from the expression "an axe to grind".
    • The name of Norath's droid is 2BR-NTB, a pun for "to be or not to be."
  • Shout-Out: Norath's droid is named 2BR-NTB.
  • Sinister Scraping Sound: CB tries to use this to torture information out of Lechee, but it isn't effective beyond being mildly annoying.
  • Tuckerization: Lechee is named for Lucasfilm Holocron Keeper Leland Chee.
  • We Have Ways of Making You Talk: While interrogating Lechee, Kaz says that he better talk or else. When Lechee tries to call his bluff, Kaz lets CB-23 come up to... somewhat loudly scratch her arm probe against the table. It doesn't do anything besides be annoying, so Yeager just threatens to rob him instead, which works.
