Recap / She Ra And The Princesses Of Power S 5 E 06 Taking Control

Go To

The team tries to keep the ship working and evade Horde Prime's pursuit. On Etheria, Micah struggles to relate to Frosta during a mission to Elberon.

Tropes:

  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: After apologising for sending her to Beast Island Entrapta pats Catra on the head with her hair hands after telling her that she is forgiven.
  • Armor-Piercing Response:
    • During an argument Adora says the one thing Catra never expected and the impact of it is the true beginning of her redemption.
      Adora: I never hated you!
    • It doesn't take Catra very long to revert back to her angry self, much to Adora's annoyance. Glimmer bemusedly asks if Adora thought Catra would be a different person right away, telling her that it would take more than a single rescue to fix years of problems.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: The new She-Ra can breathe in space without any special equipment.
  • Character Development: While Adora does consider accepting Catra back after she’s shown she’s willing to change, Adora will not hesitate putting her foot down on her when it matters.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Despite her Heel–Face Turn, Catra remains acerbically sarcastic and standoffish towards Adora and her friends — particularly Adora. When Adora confronts her over her continued antagonism, Catra admits part of why she's lashing out is that she thinks Adora hates her.
  • Disappointed in You: Adora never hated Catra, but the way she says it is a subtle reminder Catra has hurt her and if anything, let her down. For Catra that’s even worse.
  • Easily Forgiven: At the very least, Entrapta forgives Catra for sending her to Beast Island, despite Catra fearing that Entrapta would try to kill her in revenge for it. Entrapta even needs a minute to remember why Catra would be worried that she'd do that, since she rather enjoyed her time there. Bow offhandedly mentions how she threw him off a cliff but seems to have forgiven her at the end.
  • Empathy Doll Shot: When the heroes arrive in Elberon, a She-Ra doll lying abandoned on the ground is one of the first hints that something is wrong.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Catra cannot believe that Entrapta would ever forgive her for sending her to Beast Island, and is even more shocked to learn that Adora does not hate her.
  • Evil Is Petty: Horde Prime's motivation to mass-chip Etheria and the Rebellion is at least partially because he's pissed that Adora managed to defy him and rescue Catra.
  • Evolving Credits: Wrong Hordak is now part of the hero shot at the end of the opening.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When Catra is reluctant to let Entrapta operate on her fearing she'll try to kill her, Entrapta doesn't understand why she'd want to kill her...and then stops to remember that Catra shipped her off to Beast Island.
  • Friendship Moment: Catra gets one with the whole group at the end of the episode after they silently invite her to share a meal with them.
  • Foreshadowing: Spinnerella getting separated from the group, only to return and tell Netossa that something weird just happened while rubbing her neck, hints at her having been chipped.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Catra argues that she can still have some use for the chip before Entrapta removes it. The connection is enough for her to learn that Horde Prime is chipping everyone on Etheria, something Adora had no way of knowing otherwise.
  • Lampshade Hanging: After hearing Adora's rant about Catra's hostile attitude, Glimmer rightfully points out that one rescue mission won't make things work out right away.
  • Lingerie Scene: Catra spends the entire episode wearing only her sports bra and her boxer briefs.
  • Manchurian Agent: Little does everyone know that Spinnerella got chipped.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: Catra takes Adora's hand and asks her to stay while Entrapta works on Horde Prime's chip. Adora stays up until Catra has used the chip to glean what Horde Prime is up to on Etheria, then leaves to blow up the pursuing ships.
  • Tough Love: After Catra's acerbic attitude prevents her from letting them get the chip out of her Adora tells her to grow up, let them take it out of her, and if she really wants to leave then they'll drop her off on the next planet and they never have to see each other again. This finally gets Catra to drop her attitude and ask Adora to stay.
  • Uncanny Valley: In-Universe, the chipped Elberon villagers try to act normal, but their robotic and emotionless behavior just creeps the heroes out even before them being chipped is revealed.
  • Wham Shot: The ending reveals that Spinnerella got chipped before the heroes could escape.

I Never Hated You

After being rescued, Catra is too ashamed of herself to face everyone she hurt, certain that they all hate her. She's surprised to learn that in spite of everything, Adora doesn't hate her and never did.
