Recap / Prehistoric Park Extras E 3 Of Packs And Predators

Go To

Within days after visiting the Pleistocene age La Brea tar pits area, Alice undergoes her rounds at the park before then winding down at the end of the day in her living space at the park while also caring for her sizable collection of mammalian 'pets'.

  • A Day in the Limelight: The entire chapter serves as this for Alice.
  • Animal Jingoism: The ever so famous natural enmity between wolves and coyotes is shown to be present between the now very much no longer extinct dire wolves and Pleistocene coyotes.
  • Beary Friendly: While not necessarily too friendly, Smokey is comparatively much less aggressive in his appearance in this chapter than he was when he was first introduced in Oozing From the Pit.
  • Elemental Motifs: Alice is associated with the element of earth. Her bungalow (the only one of the staff accommodations that's on the ground) has yellow, brown and dark green wallpaper
  • Gone Horribly Right: Kyle's plans for the dire wolf and Pleistocene coyote exhibit design indeed allows the two canid species ideal means of stimulation. Unfortunately, it also allows them the perfect opportunity to growl at and antagonize each other while only a single hidden wall of concrete stands between them and preventing them from lunging at each other and initiating an outright territory brawl.
  • I'm Taking Her Home with Me!: Alice is revealed to have had a fondness for taking abandoned mammals home with her to keep as pets ever since she and her family once received a fox kit from their neighbour after he shot its mom dead before learning that said fox had been a mother. And in the years since, she has gathered a collection of other mammals (mostly abandoned exotic pets), now including an orphaned theriodictis pup who was brought back over the course of Red in Tooth and Claw.
  • Interspecies Friendship: The beginnings of this between Eshe and Alice are shown unfolding at the beginning of this chapter.
    • Black Mask (a raccoon) and Bali (a Balinese street dog) in Alice's collection have formed quite a close bond, eating moving and even sleeping alongside each other.
  • Parental Substitute: Alice is hand-raising an orphaned theriodictis pup who was brought back in Red in Tooth And Claw.
  • Panthera Awesome: Eshe the American Cheetah, Diego and Shira the smilodon fatalis, and the American lion pride and homotherium 'pack' are all present in this chapter.
  • Savage Wolves: Nero and the rest of the dire wolves seem all too close to acting like this when acting as if ready to try to fight the similarly antagonistic acting Dag and his fellow Pleistocene coyotes.
  • Those Wily Coyotes: Dag and the rest of his pack of fellow Pleistocene coyotes seem quite antagonistic and shifty towards Nero and the other dire wolves.
