Apparently, Scyther and Charizard are light sleepers.

The one where... Ash and Co. stop to rest.

Ash and the gang discover a new island that is loaded with different types of fruit trees, and since the food there is free they decide to take a day off and give their Pokémon a little vacation. Unfortunately, Team Rocket doesn't take a day off from trying to steal Pikachu...will they catch our heroes off guard?

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Ash Face: Charizard does this to Ash. Again. Though the latter was very much Tempting Fate by exclaiming "you really burn me up!"
  • Brick Joke: The Farfetch'd flock that Ash and the gang see near the beginning of the episode show up at the end to harass Team Rocket, who happened to be stranded on an island the Farfetch'd live on.
  • The Cameo: The dub's "Who's that Pokemon?" eyecatch features Porygon, along with saying its name in a robotic tone, allowing it to make an appearance in the dub after all outside of movie cameos.
  • Don't Wake the Sleeper: Team Rocket tried to catch the twerps' Pokémon without waking them up. Unfortunately for them, Scyther and Charizard did.
  • Exact Words: Ash, angered by Charizard's poor attitude, exclaims "you really burn me up!". Charizard obliges with a Flamethrower to the face.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Charizard and Scyther do not get along at first, however after teaming up to save the group Team Rocket they develop a mutual respect for each other.
  • Licked by the Dog: Ash and Misty's Pokemon are wary of Tracey's new Scyther due to its Proud Warrior Race Guy attitude. The only one willing to approach it is Togepi.
  • Non Sequitur, *Thud*: How the Team Rocket motto ends after Jessie and James crash into the tree.
  • Smart Ball: Jesse and James grab it for a second by attacking with Sleep Powder from a distance when the gang is mostly asleep already so they can secure a sneak attack. Balance is restored a minute later when they decide to zipline into close range of an awake and angry Scyther and Charizard. They make it even worse by challenging the group despite being outmatched and outnumbered.
  • Watch Out for That Tree!: Jessie and James thought swinging in on a zipline would make a cool entrance. The sudden stop at the end says otherwise.
Jessie: Team Blocket...rest off at the lead of spite...tonight...
James: Surrender now or prepare...to surrender now...surrender now...
Meowth: Meowth! Say the motto riiiiight! (Fury Swipes both of them)
