Ash and co. meet Bianca, a hyperactive trainer who delivers a badge case to Ash from Professor Juniper. Things go wrong when a Minccino shows up and steals some of the trainers' things so it can clean them, and Bianca resolves to fix the problem by catching it.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Aside Glance: Bianca waves at the audience during her intro.
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: There is a scene where Ash is stripped down to his boxers.
  • Crush Filter: When Ash's female Snivy gets hit by the male Minccino's Attract.
  • Empathy Pet: At one point, Bianca pitches a fit, and her Pignite mirrors her.
  • Epic Fail: Bianca commanding Pikachu to use Zap Cannon. Ash informed her that he cannot use that move, much to her annoyance and attempted persistence. Even Pikachu is annoyed. This would have been averted (See Exiled from Continuity below).
  • Exiled from Continuity: Pikachu being able to use Zap Cannon. Technically, Pikachu can learn the move by using a TM in Generation II. Generations III and after no longer has Pikachu being able to use that move.
  • Hanging Our Clothes to Dry: This is what happens to Ash and Cilian after Bianca knocks them into the water.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Bianca commanding Oshawatt to use Hydro Pump. At this stage in the anime, Oshawatt doesn't know that move, leaving Oshawatt confused; Oshawatt's confused movements mirrored that of Bianca's excited state. Moving 74 episodes later, Oshawatt learns Hydro Pump.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Figuring Minccino was male, Ash summons Snivy to use Attract on him to disable him. Good news: he was right. Bad news: Minccino dodged, and used Attract back on Snivy. For once, Snivy has the tables turned on her.
    • Later, Bianca caught Minccino by pulling out a dirty Poké Ball. Minccino came up to clean it, hit the button, and ended up catching himself.
  • Internal Homage: Ash using Dawn's "No Need to worry" catchphrase.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Bianca winning her first 2 badges using just Pignite and Flame Charge. Note that Ash struggled with the first 2 Gyms, with the 2nd Gym ending in defeat.
  • Running Gag: The start of Bianca's clumsiness knocking Ash into the water by accident. Make that double since Cilan was also knocked into the water.
