Recap / Pokemon EA 16 Camp Town Races

Go To

The next camp activity combines Pokémon trivia with an obstacle course race, and Twilight makes her decision on who she would rather travel with from now on.

  • Accidental Public Confession: Played with in that the "public" in this case is only one person, but when Flash tells Timber how much Twilight means to him and how much she has helped him, he is unaware of the camera Timber is wearing to let Twilight see and hear everything he does so he could participate in the race on her behalf.
  • Bad Boss: Timber takes Twilight's spot in the race due to her hurt ankle. However, he is much rougher and ruder with Shine than Twilight, barely caring about her safety during the race. It gets to the point Shine wishes Twilight was there instead.
  • The Big Race: "The Pokémon Triathlon" is an activity that acts as a big race for all the campers. Each camper runs a race with one of their Pokémon, while solving puzzles and answering questions at three checkpoints. Since Twilight was injured the previous day, Timber runs the race in her place for her, while wearing a special camera so she can see the competition and give him her answers for the puzzles and questions. The top three racers score the most points for their cabins while everyone else is given the same points.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Flash says the only reason he answered one of the questions on Pokémon evolution so quickly was because of a lecture she gave on Pokémon evolution she thought he slept through, referring to "The Evolution Solution".
    • The pink ribbon Twilight starts wearing at the end of the chapter is the gift Flash gave her at the end of "In Pokémon We Give Thanks".
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Flash warns Timber that if he and Twilight start traveling together it will be his responsibility to look after her and Spike, and if something happens to Twilight or any of her Pokémon because Timber froze up like he did against Piedoom, then Piedoom will be nothing compared to what Flash does to him.
  • Jerkass Realization: After Twilight hears Flash explain how much she means to him, and how he wouldn't be half the trainer he is without her, she is reduced to tears and remembers everything Flash taught her too.
Twilight: Flash... I'm the real jerk, aren't I?
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Timber wins the race, just narrowly beating Flash to the finish line, but only because Flash stopped to help him when he almost slipped and fell behind due to being covered in mud. Additionally, Twilight heard everything Flash said about her and decided to reject Timber's offer to join him and keep traveling with Flash instead.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: Because Twilight's usual bow tie she wears was destroyed by Piedoom in the previous chapter, she has replaced it with the pink ribbon that Flash gave her as a gift, deciding to wear it as a reminder of everything he has taught her.
