Recap / My Daemon S 1 E 12 The Judgment

Go To

Kaede finds Kento and, alarmed by his living situation, tries to get him to leave with her. But first, she has to deal with his mother.

Tropes for this episode include:

  • Broken Tears: Kento starts sobbing as he pleads with Kaede to let him keep pretending that the daemon in his mother's body is really her.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Kento’s (temporary) death is not a pretty sight. Not only is he tortured by Kiriko with a Shock Collar, but said collar has the side-effect of accelerating the hatching process of the Daemon’s Particle in his head, causing him to bleed from his eyes and mouth, all while he’s screaming in nightmarish agony. And when the Daemon finally hatches, it literally bursts from his head, killing him instantly.
  • Death of a Child: Only temporarily thanks to Kiriko's restoration power, but Kento dies when the daemonium particle in his head hatches.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Subverted. At first it seems like Kento is oblivious to his "mother's" obviously off mannerisms and the suspicious things she says, and uncharacteristically dismissive of Anna's clear mistrust of her. But it turns out he's fully aware of what Kiriko has done - he just wants it to be real so badly that he's willing to pretend for however long it takes to make it real.
  • Go Out with a Smile: Kento, knowing that he's about to die, manages to smile at Anna through his pain and tells her he loves her.
  • I Gave My Word: Kiriko, for all his hatred of humanity, fully keeps his promise to heal Kaede's mortal wound if Kento and Anna give themselves up to him.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Anna, upon seeing Kento die horribly in front of her, goes into her Super Mode and unleashes hell on Kiriko... exactly as he had hoped.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Kento is well aware that the mother he now lives with is not his real mom but Kiriko possessing a copy of her body. Yet he's so desperate to have her back that he convinces himself that if he keeps acting like she is really his mother, one day she can truly become that.
  • We Can Rule Together: After bringing Kento back to life to earn her trust back, Kiriko offers Anna one last chance to join him in his quest for revenge against humans, which she rejects it.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Kiriko uses a modified daemon Shock Collar to keep Kento in line and motivate Anna to follow his orders. It also has the side effect of accelerating the growth of the daemonium particle in Kento's head, leaving him in agony even when he's not being shocked.
