"Sticker Shock" contains the following tropes:

  • Advanced Tech 2000: The labeling machine is called the Swiftech Labelpro 3000.
  • Alliterative Title: Sticker Shock.
  • An Aesop: While the label maker is useful at first, Tooey starts labelling everything with it, even the picnic table, which is for everyone. After Molly's feelings get hurt, Tooey learns the value of respect and sharing within the community.
  • Commuting on a Bus: John and Jay, Tooey's older brothers, return home from college for the summer.
  • It's a Long Story: Kenji is bewildered to find Tooey labelling his jacket. Tooey says that it's a long story.
  • This Is My Chair: Tooey decides to label everyone's seats at the picnic table, so they won't ask where they're supposed to sit. Unfortunately, he forgot to label a seat for Molly, leaving her nowhere to sit at the table.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Tooey says he wants to apologize to Molly for what he did, but he never gets to by the end of the episode.

"A Song For Lola": Vera wants to create a song to sing for her grandmother, Miranda.

"A Song For Lola" contains the following tropes:

  • Affectionate Nickname: Miranda calls Midge "Mibs." They've been friends since childhood.
  • Call-Back: The episode opens with Grandpa Nat telling Molly he plans on making their shared nivagi recipe from the episode "New Nivagi."
  • The Catfish: While it was a salmon, the story of 'Big Irene' plays out like a typical giant catfish story. Miranda once caught a huge salmon she named Big Irene, but it was too fresh, and started flopping around on her.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: The episode ends with everyone laughing in joy.
  • Flash Back: There is a flashback to when Molly and her family performed a song for Auntie Merna.
  • Gift of Song: After hearing about how Molly gifted a song to Auntie Merna, Vera wants to write a song for her lola Miranda. She thinks that it should be serious at first, but she learns that gifted songs can express all kinds of emotions. In the end, the gifted song tells Miranda's life story.
  • Gratuitous Foreign Language: Miranda calls Vera apo, which is Tagalog for 'granddaughter.'
  • Overly Narrow Superlative: Molly claims that all the gifted song she's seen were really serious, though she's only seen the song that was gifted to Merna.
  • Secret Handshake: Miranda and Midge demonstrate their secret handshake; a testament to their strong friendship.
