Recap / Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers S3E16 I'm Dreaming of a White

Go To

Evil Space Humbug Lord Zedd plots to turn Christmas to his advantage! He sends Rito, Goldar, and the Tengas to the North Pole, in order to hijack Santa Claus' workshop and force him and his elves to only manufacture evil dredles that will brainwash the world's children. The Power Rangers are Santa's only hope, but thanks to the magical properties of the North Pole, they're powerless there! Can our heroes get resourceful in time to save the holiday?

Tropes

  • Almost Kiss: Tommy catches Kimberly under the mistletoe, they lean in... and their communicator goes off! We would eventually get that kiss at the end of the episode, the second between the two and the last kiss between Rangers to date.
  • Ambiguously Jewish: Lord Zedd. Here he tries to usurp Christmas with spinning tops.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: Bulk's mood at playing Santa changes after Becky says he already made her Christmas a happy one.
    Bulk: It did?
Becky: You brought my daddy home. That's all I ever wanted. I love you, Santa. [kisses him on the cheek]
Bulk: Well, uh, that's what Christmas is all about, isn't it?
  • Big "SHUT UP!": After Zedd summons him, Goldar drones on about his Undying Loyalty. Zedd shouts this to get him to focus.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: While arguing with Rita, Zedd looks at the audience and asks, "Did I mention I hate this time of year?!"
  • Breather Episode: The most light-hearted episode of the series. It doesn't even have a monster fight or utilize Stock Footage.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Something about the North Pole keeps the Rangers from morphing, but it also affects Goldar and Rito's powers, as well.
  • Christmas Episode: Of course.
  • Continuity Snarl: The original video release of this episode included a scene of Kat wishing the other Rangers happy holidays on the Viewing Globe. Given that she only became an ally of the Rangers during the forthcoming three-parter that ends with Kimberly leaving, this scene was omitted when the episode aired on TV. However, the Kat version can easily take place before the final scene in "A Different Shade of Pink, Part III", since Kimberly spends possibly weeks or months training for the Pan Global Games.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Santa gives the villains a bunch of toys... their old toys that they had previously thrown out. Rita bemoans getting stuck with this junk.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Rito can’t understand the spirit of the holidays when some of the elves try and explain it to him during the credits.
  • Friendship Moment: Rito giving Goldar a present. Goldar is practically speechless.
Rito: Happy holidays, ya big lug!
  • Funny Background Event: As Zedd explains to Rita what his spinning tops will do, Rito is clearly engrossed by the example on the table.
  • I Told You So: After the Rangers ruin Zedd's plan, Rita tries to say this, only for Zedd to cut her off.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Rito's evil, but he still gives his buddy Goldar a Christmas present.
    • Hidden Heart of Gold: The head elf invokes this on Rito when he’s scoffing at her attempt to explain the Christmas spirit to him i.e. doing a good deed without expecting any reward. He dismisses the idea as he claims he has no heart, but given that present he got for Goldar...note
  • Lampshade Hanging: As Zedd rants about how he will finally bring down Christmas this year, Rita says he says that every year. Zedd points out she couldn't possibly know that, due to them only being married for a year.
  • Mall Santa: Well, Juice Bar Santa. Bulk gets roped into playing the role, while Skull plays reindeer. Bulk isn't happy, but he's touched when Becky thanks him for making her Christmas a happy one.
    • Another can be seen in the background outside the Juice Bar when Kim is trying to comfort Becky.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: A snowball fight helps the Rangers get the better of Goldar and Rito. The elves also use marbles to trip up the Tengas.
  • So Proud of You: Once everything is back on track, Santa commends the Rangers for doing so much good for the entire world at such young ages.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: While comforting Becky about her father always working, Kimberly says it certainly couldn't hurt to tell her own father what's bothering her.
  • Tears of Joy: Skull is brought to tears over Becky thanking Santa (Bulk) for making her Christmas wish come true and kissing him on the cheek.
  • Troll: Santa does give the villains some toys, just toys they had previously thrown out themselves.
