Summary:

Takamichi and Shiguru work together to save Mabushina and the other Kiramagers from a game set up by Carantula, where anyone that moves is turned into a Daruma doll.

Tropes

  • Big Brother Instinct: As soon as Takamichi and Shiguru hear about Carantula's scheme, Takamichi's concern for Mabushina immediately skyrockets.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Defied, most likely due to filming restrictions and the overall nature of the show. Shiguru's character in I'm in Love with a Shinigami wants to kiss Rikako's (his costar's) character, but can't due to his fear of dying. While the first time was scripted, the second one was interrupted by Takamichi's antics, leading to Shiguru frantically telling the director that they should film in another area.
  • Brick Joke: A mild one. Sayo makes fun of Shiguru in the beginning for taking on a role that seems to be inconsiderate towards women, implying that he is also inconsiderate in a way. Shiguru seemed to take this to heart as he gives away a lip balm that he sponsors to his costar, while striking back that he is very considerate.
  • Chekhov's Gun:
    • The telepathy Takamichi used in the beginning is used to signal her about Drijan.
    • The braids Mabushina attains in the beginning of the episodes signals Shiguru about Takamichi's telepathy working, which leads to the plan with Drijan.
  • The Day the Music Lied: Shiguru is about to give some sound advice to Takamichi on how to get back Mabushina's graces, complete with a melancholic orchestral theme in the background...then Takamichi turns around and bluntly rejects the offer, saying that he doesn't want to be the guy to overanalyze everything. Cue the music immediately cutting out for the rest of the scene, only having a single "boing" when Shiguru's been shot down.
  • Epic Fail: Sena's Game-Breaker strategy involves running right up to him before he turns around - but then it goes butt-shaped when he steps up his timing to throw her off, just as she's reached terminal velocity, and not only slips up but smashes into the ground behind him. There's even a crater.
  • Foreshadowing: Carantula takes out a bag of marshmallows and starts to eat from them. Guess what next episode's MOTW is?
  • Fanservice: Sena's shapely rear gets some brief but memorable focus.
  • Funny Background Event: How Takamichi appears when he interrupts the shooting of Shiguru's romance series to search for treasure.
  • Hidden Depths: Shiguru is shown to create an effective strategy on the fly using Takamichi's telepathy thanks to his observations regarding Mabushina.
  • Mythology Gag: Juru strikes a pose similar to the Dorodoros when him and Tametomo are stuck in place.
  • Playing Against Type: Mildly discussed here. Shiguru, a well-known action star, takes on a romance series - albeit with a twist. Sayo makes fun of him for taking on the role, saying that it fits him because of how the character is "inconsiderate towards women".
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The episode's name is a reference to the 1995 film Listen to the Voices of the Sea: Last Friends.
  • The Reveal: Later on in the episode, it's revealed to the audience what Takamichi relayed to Mabushina in the beginning. With his observation skills and knowledge of Takamichi and Mabushina's past, this signals Shiguru that the telepathic relay worked, allowing them to come up with a quick plan to get Mabushina out of Carantula's trap.
  • Show Within a Show: Shiguru's horror romance I'm in Love with a Shinigami is shown here.
  • Skewed Priorities: Muryo tells Shiguru to only focus on his drama, possibly so that he can see the next episode in time.
  • Telepathy: Part of the episode's plot revolves around Takamichi trying to communicate with Mabushina this way.
  • Tsundere: Mabushina undoes the braids Takamichi suggested to her and yells at him for being rude. The next few shots show that she's laughing at the whole thing, which is an indicator that she's slowly making amends with Takamichi.
  • Wall Pin of Love: In his drama, Shiguru does this to his costar.
