Joe and Frank Russo are arrested for severely beating George Harding. They believe he raped their sister Leslie, who resides at a psychiatric hospital where Harding works. He is arrested for raping both Leslie, and Wendy Singer, a patient at another hospital where he worked; she has become pregnant whilst in a coma. The case against Harding falls apart when it emerges he did not rape Leslie. However, a DNA test shows he is the father of Wendy's baby. She dies in childbirth, and his charges are increased to murder.
Ross learns that Harding was actually paid to rape Wendy by her mother, who wanted a grandchild. The DAs need to make a deal with either Harding or Mrs. Singer to testify against the other, but can't decide which. In the absence of a better option, McCoy acquiesces to drop the murder charge and just have them both convicted of rape. Harding's parents are now applying for legal custody of the baby and McCoy is glad he doesn't have to deal with that case.
