"Let's Play Prison Ball" contains the following tropes:
- Early-Installment Weirdness: Stumpy refuses to be on Mr. Cat's team because Cats Are Mean. In later episodes, he willingly teams up with Mr. Cat to pull off antagonistic deeds, and idolizes him because he's cool.
- Establishing Character Moment:
- Kaeloo remains happy for most of the episode despite all the chaos going on around her.
- Stumpy takes the term "prison" in "prison-ball" too literally.
- Mr. Cat is first shown to be unwilling to participate in the game, and the same scene has him talk about how much he loves beating Quack Quack up.
- Establishing Series Moment: Mr. Cat pulls out a bazooka and starts shooting spiked dodgeballs at Quack Quack.
- Great Escape: Parodied. Stumpy gets sent to the "prison" in a game of prison-ball. He first starts yelling how "society's the one to blame", then he gets a map of the prison tattooed on his tummy, and finally he uses a jackhammer to dig his way out. Unfortunately, this happens at the exact time Kaeloo gets mad enough to throw Mr. Cat into the air, and Mr. Cat comes crashing down on top of Stumpy's tunnel, pushing him back in. By the end of the episode, Stumpy is released anyway since it was a game, though the experience makes him hate the game of prison-ball.
- Happy Dance: When Kaeloo catches the ball, she does the "booty dance".
- Insane Troll Logic: Mr. Cat sets up a basketball hoop to catch the ball in. Kaeloo says that it's cheating, and Mr. Cat explains why it isn't: The game is called "prison-ball", and "all prisoners play basketball".
- Literal-Minded: Stumpy thinks that the "prison" in the game is an actual prison and tries to break out of it, despite constantly being told that that's not how it works.
- Sudden Anatomy: Mr. Cat suddenly grows a beak while trying to convince Kaeloo that beaks are ugly.
- Sweat Drop: Mr. Cat's reaction to the booty dance.
- Tempting Fate: When it's Quack Quack's turn, Stumpy gleefully chants "You'll never hit me! You'll never hit me!" only to be hit with the ball immediately.
- This Is Gonna Suck: Mr. Cat's reaction to Kaeloo Hulking Out for the second time is to put on an annoyed facial expression which pretty much says "Do I really need to put up with this?".
- Twitchy Eye: Kaeloo throws the ball to Mr. Cat, but before he can catch it, Stumpy jumps in front of him and catches the ball while repeatedly screaming "Me! Me! Me!" Mr. Cat continues to stand frozen in sheer shock and his eye twitches a little.
