Jane the Roommate

"Say good-bye to Fun Jane. It's back to Mom Jane."
Jane

Jane and Rafael are still on the outs, and clash over what school to send Mateo now that they can't afford the fancy private school he used to go to. Jane is also confused about her relationship with Adam, since he gets a job offer that will send him to LA. Petra and Rafael try to get the Marbella back from Luisa while attempting to become more open and communicative with each other. Xiomara is stuck with babysitting Darci, who's on bed rest from her false labor. Rogelio and Fabian still aren't getting along and the studio execs find a solution.

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Yes, Rogelio gets Fabian's character killed off like he wanted, but the catch is that his replacement is played by his archnemesis Esteban... who seems to be getting along with Darci.
  • Disguised in Drag: Rogelio dresses up as a woman to infiltrate the focus group.
  • Freudian Trio: The hedonistic "Fun Jane" as the Id and the straight-laced "Mom Jane" as the superego. Jane herself tries to decide and mediate between them.
  • Good Angel, Bad Angel: Parodied with the two sides of Jane Adam presents — the hedonistic "Fun Jane", who encourages her to get in touch with her wild side, and the sensible "Mom Jane", who encourages her to take the rational course of action.
  • Hypocrite: Rafael tells Petra that he's never crossed the line of sleeping with other people to get what he needs, unlike her. Despite this, he makes a move on the investor he's courting at the end of the episode.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: One starts to grow between Alba and Rafael in this episode. They apparently started bonding over fitness.
  • Mrs. Robinson: The hotelier Rafael meets is a middle-aged woman who's clearly into him.
  • Nonconformist Dyed Hair: "Fun Jane" has bleached blonde hair with pink tips, which makes her look like a rebellious cool girl.
  • This Cannot Be!: Rogelio's reaction when he sees that Esteban is his new costar.
  • This Is Reality: Jane doesn't allow herself to get swept up in Adam's fantasy for the two of them and tells him that they have to start looking at real life.
  • Tonight, Someone Dies:
    • Invoked by the studio executives. Since Fabian and Rogelio can't get along onset, a Very Special Episode will center on one of them getting killed off.
Studio Exec: It's the oldest trick in the book. Kill someone off to juice the ratings!
    • Later gets a callback at the end of the episode, when the narrator announces that "one of these people will die", followed by a montage of Magda, Anezka, Petra, Alba, Rafael, and Luisa.
  • Too Much Information: Jane spills a lot about her and Adam to the doctor treating her thanks to pain meds.
  • Valley Girl: "Fun Jane" speaks in this manner.
