Recap / Infinity Train: Blossoming Trail: The Fog Car Pt9

Go To

The Fog Car saga finally comes to an end.

  • A God Am I: Walter proclaims himself the 'God of Silent Hill'.
  • Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: Discussed. After killing Walter to save Chloe, Grace notes that things like stabbing Walter in the back of the head are things only adults should do, not kids...before Chloe gives her a look over how Grace taught kids to wheel Denizens for their own amusement and said kids gleefully said Chloe deserved to die for their fun. Grace immediately tries to backtrck the statement.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Of Chloe’s time in the Infinity Train.
    • Bitter
      • Her reputation in the Pokemon World is still completely ruined thanks to Parker. And even though Chloe has realized her mistakes and has decided to move forward and try to make amends, she still has a rough road ahead of her.
      • Despite everything she has done to try to prevent it, Tuba still died, having Atticus revive her instead when the both of them were killed.
      • She also has to say goodbye to all the friends she has met on the train. And its very likely that she will never see them again.
    • Sweet
      • Chloe has also resolved to become a new person, leaving behind the person she once was. This declaration is what gets her number down to zero.
      • She had also carried out her mission to stop the Apex: Simon is dead thanks to Sean, and Grace and the children have split up to figure out why they came onto the Train and think over their sins.
      • Hop, Alain, Paul and Hazel are successfully rescued from the Fog Car. And the three trainers were able to help her realize that trainers are still human and the trainer life isn’t as glamorous as it looks.
      • Chloe is fully ready to take responsibility for her mistakes, and is ready to try new things.
  • Bookends: To the fight in The Midnight Car, where Lexi turns into a gryphon with Spinarak breath and Chloe warning Walter to not underestimate her then declaring, "NOW EAT THIS, SUCKA!!!!"
  • Breaking Speech: Henry gives one to the Apex, aping off of Vincent Smith's famous speech, on how they're no longer brave and courageous against a denizen that can and will kill them. Alex shuts him up with his knife.
  • Brick Joke: One of the insults that Class 5-E did to Chloe was make a graffiti of "Chloe + Lucifer" on a heart. Chloe's ultimate summon to stop Walter? Lucifer.
  • Chekhov's Gag: Wooloo made a promise to get strong so he can knock that smile off of Walter's face. As Dubwool, he tackles Walter's body into the lake as a middle finger.
  • Cliffhanger: Chloe has finally gotten off the train, but Miss Turner still has Class 5-E and Goh hostage. Once learning about it from Molly’s message, Chloe has One One drop her off at the location mentioned in the email..
  • Continuity Nod: Turner brings up the events of Movies 3, 5, 6, and 8 in an attempt to say Ash is no different from her. Due to many errors in her assumption this does nothing but amuse the infuriated Ash.
  • David Versus Goliath: Walter's final form is an absolute monstrosity, while Chloe is around 4 feet and Lucifer is the size of a human man. Both of them topple Walter with the force of a thousand suns.
  • Decon-Recon Switch: After the story deconstructs the idea of being obsessed with Pokémon to amount to anything it brings in the idea that you can also find aspects of yourself by working alongside said creatures.
  • Holy Hand Grenade: Chloe's summon of Lucifer summons a large orb of light to destroy Walter.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Grace figures that if nothing else, she can go to Maccadams and get very drunk.
  • One-Winged Angel: Walter and Henry's boss battles.
  • Shoot the Hostage: Yeardley fears this happening to him, since the only people in the class who'd be valuable to threaten are Kurune and his little sister.
  • Shout-Out: Maccadams is mentioned again, with a particular focus on Transformers: Animated. A robot very similar to Sentinel Prime is described.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: A frequent theme in the chapter:
    • Alex cuts down Henry's Breaking Speech, commenting that the monster almost wants the Apex to continue just so they can claim child murder as heroic.
    • Chloe shoots down Walter's lectures about her destiny, claiming that he has no business deciding what her fate should be.
    • Ash all but laughs off Turner's attempt to do a Hannibal Lecture.
  • So Proud of You: Zac is nothing but happy to see his pupil becoming brave and strong to take apart the God of Silent Hill.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: The mood of Grace's final farewell is soured by glass singers who can't pronounce Wenceslas to save their lives.
  • Taking You with Me: Alex stabs Henry with a spear and grabs him before pulling them both into Toluca Lake, drowning them.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Grace refers to going through the Car Full of Glass Singers that Never Ever Stop Loudly Singing Off-key Christmas Carols as being just as much of a hell as the Fog Car.
  • Together in Death: Hop sees the ghosts of Alex and Josh waving goodbye at them.
  • Wham Shot: Chloe's number reaching zero...and then the message from Molly.
  • Who Will Bell the Cat?: How Turner holds the class hostage with one gun.
