Nick and Monroe go treasure hunting.

It is not down on any map; true places never are.

After studying the new keys, Monroe concludes the map, although still incomplete, points to a church in a village in the German Back Forest. He and Nick search for the Crusaders' hiding place, but are opposed by the local curate's Wesen militia.

Back home, Wu and Hank track the Black Claw hit-man Marwan Hanano. Hadrian's Wall are tracking him too, but who is the assassin's target?

This episode provides examples of:

  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • When testing the rifle, Hanano aims towards some teenagers playing basketball nearby as if he's going to kill one of them, but instead he shoots the basketball.
    • The rally is set up as if Renard is going to be the one Hanano shoots, but it's Dixon.
  • Call-Back:
    • Nick and Monroe travel incognito using the identities of Rosalee's brother Freddie and Monroe's uncle Felix.
    • HW's investigation of Black Claw leader Marwan Hanano and Renard's involvement in Andrew Dixon's mayoral campaign come together when Hanano shoots Dixon with a sniper rifle.
  • Cliffhanger: Adalind regains her Hexenbiest powers. Andrew Dixon is shot onstage at a political rally. Nick and Monroe find the burial site and fall through the forest floor to an uncertain fate.
  • Floorboard Failure: Nick and Hank find some obviously-arranged stones at the top of the hill where they think the church from the map used to be. Levering one up to examine it, they inadvertently destabilize the surface they're on and fall through to catacombs below.
Nick: It sounds like we might have dislodged something. [CRASH]
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • A Reinegen at the church where Nick and Monroe first look for the burial site has the usual reaction to seeing Nick. Once they've gone, he alerts the curate who rallies the Wesen villagers to kill them.
    • Renard, speaking at the rally, spots Hank and Wu searching the crowd and realises something's up.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Nick and Adalind sleep together (knowingly and on purpose) for the first time.
  • Scaramanga Special: The assassin who shoots Dixon conceals his sniper rifle in the parts of a bicycle.
  • Shout-Out:
    • With Nick and Monroe going on a hunt for ancient treasure, Indiana Jones comparisons are a given.
Monroe: What if it's like the Ark of the Covenant, or the Holy Grail, or I don't know, the Ten Commandments or something?
Nick: Why would they bury the Ten Commandments?
Monroe: I don't know. Maybe there's other commandments we know nothing about.
  • Sneaky Spy Species: According to the season 5 blu-ray guide, Marwan Hanano is an Uhranuti - a falcon-like Wesen with incredible visual acuity and a tendency towards isolation, ruthlessness, and stealth, making them ideal assassins.
  • To Be Continued: The episode ends with "To Be Continued... in Episode 100".
  • "X" Marks the Spot: Inversion. The gang realise the treasure is in the only church marked on the map that doesn't have a steeple.
