Dexter is on a date with Steff at a fancy restaurant, but is forced to leave to deal with the Lobe. However, Freakazoid ends up being electrified by the Lobe's television-stealing machine and is unable to transform back into Dexter and instead turns into different TV personalities, putting his date at risk. When the Lobe later arrives at the same restaurant (in a rousing parody of Hello Dolly!), Freakazoid is forced to ask him for help.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: "Have a good time, now!"
  • Crush Blush: Dexter’s whole face goes bright pink after Steff gives him a kiss on the cheek at the end of the episode.
  • I Gave My Word: After getting the chase he so badly wanted, the Lobe tells Freakazoid as promised how to fix his Shapeshifter Mode Lock.
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: Not only is the Lobe's plan at the TV station easily foiled, but Freakazoid won't even go through the pretense of chasing him around, due to having to get back to his date. The Lobe bemoans this wasted night and goes to the restaurant to have some fun.
  • Not So Above It All: The Lobe laughs himself silly while watching Seinfeld and praises Newman in particular. He's also quite elated when Freakazoid finally chases him around.
  • Running Gag: The episode has two, where it would randomly cut back to two certain scenes at some points during the episode.
Mrs. Douglas: Have a good time, now!
Lobe’s Goon: That is one happy man.
  • Shapeshifter Mode Lock: After getting electrocuted while stopping The Lobe, Freakazoid can’t change back into Dexter. Every time he tries, he instead shapeshifts into blue-skinned versions of famous celebrities. It’s only after drinking warm water with a spoonful of salt that he’s able to change back.
  • Shout-Out: "Bonjour, Lobey" is a riff on the song from the 1969 film version of Hello, Dolly!.
  • There Was a Door: At the TV station, Freakazoid bursts through a wall of television monitors. The Lobe scolds him for this brashness, saying the door is a mere ten feet away from where he burst in.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: This is one of the few episodes where Dexter actually catches a break at the end. After being stuck in Shapeshifter Mode Lock for most of the episode, he’s able to change back into himself and get back to his date with Steff. While he fears that the date has been a disaster, Steff says she had a lot of fun thanks to The Lobe’s musical number and subsequent chase with Freakazoid. She then kisses him on the cheek.
  • Villain Song: "Bonjour, Lobey"
  • Wicked Cultured: After escaping police custody, the Lobe goes to the posh restaurant and enjoys the staff singing a Villain Song for him.
