Recap / Frasier S 05 E 15 Room Service

Go To

When Lilith's new husband leaves her (for a man), Frasier tries to console while resisting his urge to have intercourse with her, but things take an awkward turn when Lilith and Niles end up in bed together.

Tropes:

  • Amoral Attorney: Maris's divorce lawyers keep harassing Niles to talk about settlements. It's gotten so bad he's having stress-induced narcolepsy.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The initial way things go, it seems Frasier is going to succumb to his barely contained lust and end up sleeping with Lilith. The act break ends with Lilith waking up in bed with... Niles?
  • Bedmate Reveal: Lilith wakes up in her hotel room and then Niles emerges from under the covers.
  • Cringe Comedy: Debatably one of the most hilariously awkward episodes of the show.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: Lilith dresses up in a Sexy Backless Outfit for her visit to Frasier's apartment, in order to cheer herself up. Frasier notices... and so, it turns out, does Niles.
    Frasier: Oh, baby!
Lilith: Thanks, Frasier. I needed that.
  • It Makes Sense in Context: One of the episode's main gags is that the viewer knows the whole situation between Frasier, Niles, and Lilith, but the waiter does not.
  • It's All About Me: Frasier's reaction upon discovering that Lilith and Niles had sex is to assume that they only did it to spite him. Needless to say, Lilith calls him out on this.
  • Not Hyperbole: When Lilith tells Niles he has egg on his face, she means it literally, thanks to him face-planting in his eggs benedict.
  • Running Gag:
    • Niles keeps falling sleep whenever he's in a stressful position. He apparently overcomes it a little after his 'night-of-passion' with Lilith.
    • The hotel employee walking in on the situation between Lilith, Niles and Frasier, and getting a weird mental image.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Martin and Daphne can't bring themselves to even try to be civil to Lilith, panic when they learn she's coming to the apartment, and run away when the doorbell rings, not to be seen for the rest of the episode.
  • Sex for Solace: Lilith shows up looking for Frasier to console her over her failed marriage. He's incredibly tempted but resists the urge to sleep with her. She instead ends up sleeping with Niles who also needs a confidence boost thanks to his horrible divorce proceedings.
  • Side Bet: When Frasier tells Niles about Lilith's divorce from Brian, Niles complains that he now owes five dollars to Martin, who apparently had the foresight to see that Brian was gay.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: Lilith's succinct but heartfelt rebuttal to Frasier's hypothesis that she and Niles engaged in carnal acts as a passive-aggressive act of revenge against him. To whit:
Lilith: Allow me to rebut: WHAT A CROCK!
  • The Tag: Lilith eats the breakfast she bought at the hotel she and Niles spent the night in the bathroom.
  • Take That!: Niles saying that things such as a man sleeping with his former sister-in-law happen everyday in Arkansas.
