Recap / Frasier S 01 E 16 The Show Where Lilith Comes Back

Go To

Lilith comes to Seattle after finding a lost letter of reconciliation from Frasier and tries to rekindle their relationship. Original airdate, February 3, 1994.

Examples:

  • Accidental Public Confession: Frasier admits that he and Lilith made a mistake being intimate in the hotel together just as Lilith corrects him that the mistake she meant was the eggs she ordered for breakfast.
  • Anguished Declaration of Love:
    • Frasier written one in a letter addressed to Lilith hoping for a reconciliation. However, the letter was written nearly a year prior to Frasier moving to Seattle.
    • Frasier and Lilith say one to each other as they embrace in the hotel.
  • Backhanded Apology: Lilith's apology to chortling at Maris's wedding vows are mostly just saying she will apologise for Niles being insecure and in need of validation. Which, fortunately, he is.
  • Crazy-Prepared: When Frasier writes a sign saying "you're fired" to Roz, she immediately picks one up declaring "I'm union".
  • Death Glare: Frasier shoots one at Roz when she suggests over the air that Frasier invite Lilith to his place for dinner.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Martin claims he prefers Maris over Lilith because Lilith is apparently weirder. As the show goes on, it's made clear that Maris is far, far weirder than Lilith could ever hope to be, even during her "new-age Earth Mother" phase she had when she was pregnant with Fredrick.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: As Frasier blurts out how big a mistake his and Lilith's night together was, Lilith tells him that she meant the hotel made a mistake with her breakfast. Causing Frasier to backtrack himself.
  • Failed Attempt at Drama: After learning when the letter was written, Lilith excuses herself and tries to leave with some dignity only for the straps of her purse to get caught in the door. She spends a few seconds futilely trying to pull it through the gap before ringing the doorbell and sheepishly thanking Frasier when he opens the door.
  • Hates Being Alone: Lilith confesses to being terrified living as a single divorced mother alone.
  • I'm a Man; I Can't Help It: Lilith and Frasier lampshade this trope as to why he acted so impulsively with his ex.
  • Kick the Dog: Frasier comparing his spending the night with Lilith to being "Devil's advocate". In front of her no less.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Frasier thinks this as he awakens the morning after sleeping with Lilith.
  • Obnoxious Inlaws: Martin and Niles both dislike Lilith. In Martin's case, it's just curmudgeonly dislike. In Niles's, it's because Lilith guffawed at Maris's wedding vows (although given they sound ridiculously glurge-y, it's hard to blame her) and has never apologised.
  • Poke in the Third Eye: Daphne at least tries to be civil to Lilith, but her mere presence in Seattle is giving Daphne a raging headache, which she figures might well kill her before the weekend is out. The minute Lilith leaves, it clears up.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: Niles takes Lilith's Backhanded Apology at face value, hugs her and forgives several years of bad blood, much to Lilith's confusion.
  • Sexy Discretion Shot: Frasier and Lilith falling on the bed together and the camera cutting to black.
  • Troll: Roz suggests Frasier invite Lilith to dinner on air, which Frasier can't turn down without looking like a jackass.
  • Ultimate Job Security: After suggesting he and Lilith go to dinner Frasier scrawls out a sign telling Roz she's fired. Roz holds up one of her own saying "I'm union".
  • Unresolved Sexual Tension: Between Frasier and his ex Lilith. Until they arrive at the hotel she's staying at.
