Season 7, Episode 03:

Cindy Hawkins

Written by Nick Bernardone & Jacob Pinion
Directed by Ron Underwood

"I said we knew he killed 23 women, but we only found 22 bodies. His last victim, Cindy Hawkins, the one whose purse I planted, he finally admitted he killed her."
John Dorie Sr.

Dorie and June make the best of Teddy's bunker until its history is uncovered.

Tropes:

  • And Then John Was a Zombie: When John leaves to find clues, he encounters Dakota's walker, which he quickly puts down.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: When John finds Dakota's zombified body, he sadly remarks that she was another girl he couldn't save, and puts her out of her misery.
  • Bring It: The final words of the episode, no less, spoken by Strand in response to Morgan’s threat that he’ll come for his head if he harms his people.
  • Determinator: John will find Cindy's body, even if he has to kill June.
  • Evil Is Petty: Morgan has already told Strand he will not cross paths with him and is encouraging him to build his community; but the prospect of facing off with Morgan is too delicious for Strand to disregard so he is implied to be planning to actively provoke Morgan into acting on his threat. Everything Strand is doing is motivated by his desire to prove Morgan wrong.
  • Hypocrite: Strand wants to willingly provoke Morgan into coming for his head despite earlier stating how he can’t afford to take any unnecessary risks so as to not leave the Tower without his leadership.
  • I'll Kill You!: Morgan vows to Strand that if he finds out he is not a benevolent leader or has harmed any of his people, he will find and kill him.
  • Pet the Dog: It’s brief, but Strand is understanding when John refuses his offer of drink to his ongoing alcohol issues.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: When Strand makes contact with Morgan at the end of the episode, he delights in telling Morgan how his ways failed and led to the devastation of Texas. He even uses Department of Redundancy Department when he tells Morgan “you’re a failure; you failed”, because he wants to gloat to Morgan that much.
  • Sanity Slippage: John slowly loses it more and more over the course of the episode.
  • We Used to Be Friends: It’s clear Morgan and Strand’s friendship is over due to Morgan not forgetting how Strand threw him to walkers and helping Teddy achieve his goal, and Strand now wanting to show up Morgan’s efforts to build civilization. John also initially refuses to live in the Tower due to what Strand did to Morgan, and even when it’s clear he must stay, has no love for Strand.

"Bring it."
