This episode contains examples of:

  • Baffled by Own Biology: Peter mentions that he went to Dr. Hartman to check out a growth on his body. When the scene cuts to his office though?
Dr. Hartman: Mr. Griffin, that isn't a growth. That's your penis.
Peter: Oh. Well, What about the—
    Dr. Hartman: Testicles.
    Peter: Huh.
  • Bloodless Carnage: Despite being shot by dozens of bullets, Big Fat Paulie doesn't bleed at all.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: Peter wonders what the favor for the mafia will entail:
Peter: What are you gonna make me do, whack a guy? Off a guy? Whack off a guy? 'Cause I'm married.
  • Disneyfication: Meg notes how her high school made a change to their version of Death of a Salesman
Meg: I had rehearsal for Death of a Salesman. But we're not allowed to show death at school. So, now at the end, we dance around the sparklers.
  • Funny Foreigner: Peter remarks that you meet colourful characters in taxis, like Alex Rieger and Tony. And that funny foreign guy, in the garage. In the Cutaway Gag Jackie Chan is the foreign guy, who says "Thank you very much."
  • Hope Spot: Peter convinces Big Fat Paulie to call the hit on Lois off. Right as he's about to make the call, a rival mob comes in and assassinates Paulie.
  • Mud Wrestling: When Lois is food shopping, a marksman takes aim. He is hit by a cart from behind, causing him to hit a big jar of oil. Two women wander by (wearing bikinis for no reason) and get into a spontaneous oil wrestling match, while customers watch.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Peter when he realized he wasted the Don's favor for a tiramisu instead of calling off the hit on his wife. Luckily, he manages to convince him to do so.
  • Mythology Gag: The "Drive-By Arguments" gag originated in MacFarlane's short Life of Larry. Incidentally, it was the only gag set up by a character in the short, as all the others were set up by MacFarlane.
  • Only the Leads Get a Happy Ending: A bomb is put in her car after Lois is targeted for assassination. However, Peter later convinces the mafia to to spare her life, and the episode ends with Peter saying "all that matters is that nobody important got hurt." As he says this, the parking-valet's clothes come floating down from the sky in little pieces.
  • Never Trust a Title: The episode with the title seems to hint of it being focused on Paulie, when in reality, Paulie's only in the episode for the second act.
  • Riddled and Rattled: After Peter and Paulie exit the theater, Peter asks if it would be possible to undo the hit he accidentally put out on Lois. Just as Paulie pulls out his phone, a rival gang drives by and riddles him all the way down to the end of the block. Paulie even grabs a street lamp and twirls around a few times before finally falling over dead in the puddle at the curb.
    Peter: Aww geeze! You okay?
  • Russian Reversal: The GPS system of the new car has "Yakov Smirnoff" as one of its voice settings.
GPS: Turn left at the fork in the road. In Soviet Russia, road forks you!
  • Take That!: Peter notes that if the movie he has to take Big Fat Paulie to stars Greg Kinnear, he can be killed right away.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Mobsters make sure to finish the job.
  • Toilet Paper Substitute: Peter realizes he is out of toilet paper, and uses an Entertainment Weekly instead.
  • Wasteful Wishing: Since the Don can't refuse a request on the day of his daughter's wedding, Peter intends to ask for the hit on his wife called off. Peter then gets distracted by the Don eating his tiramisu and asks for a piece.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Lois is frequently upset at Peter doing things without talking to her first. Then furious that he accidentally put a hit on her when he ranted about her to mobster Big Fat Paulie.
