Recap / Family Guy S 17 E 10 Hefty Shades Of Gray

Go To

A ghost hunt gone bad causes Peter to go gray... and lands him a job as a mudslinging TV pundit on the local news. Meanwhile, Stewie and Brian help Chris break his addiction to online porn.

Examples:

  • Awful Wedded Life: A Cutaway Gag featuring Peter in a drug commercial ends with him noting that he left his wife in 2009 but returned to her when he realized he couldn't do better. Both are just waiting for one of them to have a fatal stroke.
  • Brick Joke: An early cutaway has Chris literally rip Peter's head off after Chris quits sugar. The episode ends with Lois doing the same when Peter announces he's joining the Trump administration.
  • Double Standard: When Lois began getting gray hairs, Peter didn't hesitate to mock her age for it. In this episode, Peter goes Prematurely Grey-Haired, yet everyone applauds his new look, enough for him to get a job as a news reporter.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Peter ends up locked in his basement overnight after the guys abandon him during a ghost hunt gone wrong. Meg is the only member of the family who hears his screams for help, and she leaves him in there, likely because of all the horrible things he has done to her.
  • Losing Your Head: A Cutaway Gag shows what it was like for Chris to get off sugar; when Peter asks him for the syrup at breakfast, Chris violently rips off his head in response. Meg laughs at Peter in this state, and in retaliation, he commands his body to throw mashed potatoes at her. At the end of the episode, Lois also rips Peter's head off when he tells her that the Griffins are joining the Trump administration.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Brian and Stewie think Chris might be gay after he turns down an attractive girl. It turns out that Chris isn't gay, he's just addicted to internet porn, therefore he has no desire to date anyone in real life.
  • Potty Emergency: A gag parodying The Bachelorette has Peter asking to be told if he was getting a rose so he can run to the bathroom and avoid soiling himself. He doesn't make it.
  • Prematurely Grey-Haired: Happens to Peter after he's locked in the basement all night with the "ghost".
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Lois acts nervously and insists she knows nothing about it when Peter suggests dyeing his hair.
