After a tech entrepreneur is abducted from a rave and found stabbed to death at his estate in Connecticut, Remy and the team must dive into the world of psychedelics to find his killer.

Tropes:

  • Big Bad: Becca McCann.
  • Disney Villain Death: When Becca loses her psychological hold over Jake and tries to shoot him dead, Remy and the team open fire which sends her bullet-ridden body over the ledge.
  • Dr. Feelgood: Becca continually doses Jake with ibogaine to keep him under her control and manipulation.
  • Fresh Clue: Remy and the team arrive at Becca McCann's house, looking for her and Jake Cooley. The house is empty but notes that the candle wax is still warm.
  • Friendship Moment: In the wake of her kidnapping in "Chains", Hana expresses doubts about taking anti-anxiety medication prescribed by her psychiatrist. Ray assures her that while medication can help, everyone must walk out of the darkness on their own. To help Hana unwind, Ray takes her up to the roof where they spend the day hitting golf balls into the Hudson River and sharing drinks together.
  • Gas Mask Mooks: Jake wears a gas mask when he abducts the tech entrepreneur Alan Mitchell from the rave.
  • Karmic Death: Becca had been able to control and manipulate Jake by dosing him with drugs and taking advantage of his traumatic memory of his mother's suicide over the Hudson Gorge by posing as his mother figure. When Becca loses her psychological hold on Jake, she attempts to shoot him in the head but is shot down by Remy and the team, sending her bullet-ridden body over the Hudson Gorge just like Jake's mother in a Disney Villain Death.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath. Becca's former coworker Dr. Bleckley described her as "liquid bromine in the lab - volatile".
  • Shovel Strike: When Jake steals his mother's ashes from the cemetery, he steals a shovel from the gravedigger's truck to break open her vault. When the gravedigger confronts him, Jake beats him with the shovel and then steals his truck.
  • The Svengali: Remy describes Becca as this for using Jake's trauma to control and manipulate him into committing murder for her own gain.
  • Talking Down the Suicidal: Remy is able to get through to Jake to help him realize that Becca has been manipulating for her own ends. Unfortunately, Becca's Disney Villain Death triggers Jake's Trauma Button and nearly causes him to follow through with his suicide attempt. Fortunately, Sheryll is able to quickly grab Jake and pull him off the ledge in time, saving his life.
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: McCann and Cooley drug the water bottles of Magnus and his board members at his crucial presentation.
  • Therapy Is for the Weak: Discussed between Hana and Ray. In the wake of her kidnapping in "Chains", Hana has been seeing a psychiatrist who prescribed her anti-anxiety medication. Hana insists that she is fine and does not need to take medication, but Ray is aware that Hana needs time to process her traumatic experience while also respecting her boundaries. In the end, Ray assures Hana that therapy will help her overcome her trauma.
  • Tragic Villain: Jake Cooley. He is really just an Unwitting Pawn for Becca McCann.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Attempted by Becca on Jake at the Hudson Gorge. Fortunately, Remy and the team reach them in time and help Jake realize how much Becca has manipulated him. When Becca tries to shoot Jake in the head, the team unload their guns at her which sends her bullet-ridden body over the gorge.
