Recap / Duck Dodgers S 1 E 4

Go To

Duck Codgers

Thanks to Dodgers' heedlessness, he and the Cadet find themselves afflicted with the pollen of the ferocious octigerious blossom, which causes aging-related problems.

  • Big "NO!": The Eager Young Space Cadet yells "No!" when Dodgers idiotically exposes them both to the incredibly dangerous pollen of the ferocious octogerius blossom.
  • Glasses of Aging: At some point, the Cadet procures a pair of large glasses. When Dodgers questions where he got them, the Cadet asks "what glasses?"
Duck Dodgers: Where'd you get them giant eye-glasses?
    The Cadet: Eye-glasses? I don't see any giant eye-glasses.
  • I Want My Mommy!: X-2 whimpers that he wants his mother when Dodgers fakes a sneeze to fool him into thinking he's going to get exposed to the pollen again after just being cured.
  • Jumping on a Grenade: Cadet attempts to throw himself on a grenade (with Dodgers' encouragement). It never occurs to either him or Dodgers to simply throw the grenade elsewhere.
  • Merlin Sickness: The ferocious octigerious causes Martians to age in reverse, in contrast to the way it affects Earthlings, so X-2 spends much of the episode growing younger.
  • Not Now, We're Too Busy Crying Over You: Dodgers loses track of Cadet for a few minutes while they're searching for the antidote to their Rapid Aging and then comes upon a pile of dust with his glasses on top. Thinking that he aged to death, Dodgers cradles the glasses and laments that he never said goodbye. Then the Cadet shows up and offers Dodgers a handkerchief. Dodgers quickly realizes the implications.
  • On Second Thought: Dodgers and the Cadet get infected with an ailment that causes them to rapidly age, and the only cure is water from a spring located beneath the Martian Palace.
Dodgers: T-The palace, with the guards, and the... zappy things that burn you like toast? [his hair starts turning gray] ...Set a course.
  • Race Against the Clock: From the moment that Dodgers exposes them to the pollen, he and the Cadet have only so long before they age to death. X-2, who ends up exposed while chasing them, has the same problem in reverse; if he doesn't find the pool that cures the pollen, he'll grow too young to exist.
  • Rapid Aging: The pollen of the ferocious octigerious causes Earthlings to grow old quickly.
  • Save the Villain: Dodgers ultimately carries X-2 into the healing pool along with Cadet when the two fall asleep en route thanks to the effect of the pollen.

Where's Baby Smarty Pants?

Dodgers finds himself tasked with escorting a super-smart baby to a peace conference.

  • Brainy Baby: The episode has a baby philosopher who is considered the only person that could mediate peace talks between the most warlike races in the galaxy. Dodgers actually stands in for him and does quite well ... then the real philosopher gets them all riled up again.
  • From the Mouths of Babes: After Ozmo gives a speech that causes the council to rile up to the point of war, Dodgers comments "Kids really do say the darnedest things".
  • Twist Ending: Dodgers was on a mission to protect and deliver Baby Ozmo because it was believed he would give a powerful peace speech at the council. It turns out he was actually pro-war.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Just because someone is a highly regarded philosopher does not mean they believe in peace instead of war, as was found out with the baby Ozmo.
