Go To

Part two of Heather's return.

Tropes:

  • The Bad Guy Wins: Dagur succeeds in buying new ships for his growing armada, and the revelation that he's Heather's brother ends up saving his life.
  • Bench Breaker: "If we can't blast the chains... blast the winches!"
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Dagur doesn't show much reaction to the revelation that he's Heather's brother, or the fact that he destroyed her village and killed the two fathers she had. In fact, he even offers We Can Rule Together to her.
  • Downer Ending: The second big one in the show; Dagur gets away and succeeds in buying new ships, and Heather leaves Dragon's Edge and her friends to figure things out now that she knows the man who murdered her family is actually her brother.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Heather is particularly crushed when Astrid won't support her plan to go after Dagur without Hiccup.
  • Foreshadowing: In Heather's flashback memory, you can hear a younger Dagur laughing.
  • Happily Adopted: Heather reveals that her parents - who were previously seen in "Heather Report" - were not actually her birth family. Despite knowing this, Heather still clearly loved them, as she was desperate to save them from Alvin in her first appearance, and is now determined to avenge their murder at Dagur's hands.
  • Heel Realization: Hiccup revealing that Dagur is her brother jolts this out of Heather, who realizes that she is close to becoming like Dagur.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Heather in her quest for revenge has become almost as violent as Dagur.
  • In the Blood: Heather almost goes berserk the way her brother does.
  • Logical Weakness: Unable to free Heather by breaking the dragon-resistant chains, Hiccup just breaks the normal winches instead.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: Hiccup reveals to Heather and everyone on Dagur's ship that Heather is Dagur's long-lost sister.
  • Morality Chain: Heather's foster parents were this to her, at least keeping her from going off the deep end. Now that they've been dead three years, she's become a Well-Intentioned Extremist.
  • Morality Pet: Windshear becomes one for Heather when Hiccup points out that a suicide mission would get her hurt. She's still a rather violent Morality Pet, though.
  • No Accounting for Taste: In-universe, Astrid is clearly thinking this when she learns that Fishlegs fits Heather's taste in men.
  • Orphan's Plot Trinket: In Heather's case, a horn with the Berk crest on it.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: While she does want Heather to stay at Dragon's Edge for her own sake, Astrid's plea for Heather to stay can come across like this.
  • The Power of Friendship: Deconstructed; Hiccup helping Heather find out her true identity helps her from killing Dagur, but she still chooses to be alone after finding out the truth. Astrid's kindness isn't enough to make her decide to stay at Dragon's Edge and work out her issues there.
  • Red Herring: When Hiccup inspects Heather's horn - which she previously explained was a Tragic Keepsake from her birth father - he discovers that Stoick's chief seal is inscribed onto it, causing Hiccup to assume that Heather is his long-lost sister. When Hiccup eventually confronts him about this, Stoick reveals that the horn was actually a gift he gave to Oswald the Agreeable for his then-newborn daughter, thus revealing that Heather is not Hiccup's sister, but Dagur's.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Heather becomes increasingly more reckless in her pursuit of Dagur, barely caring that her mission is putting herself, Windshear and the other Riders in danger. Even when learning that Dagur is her brother, she remains deadset on killing him - despite fratricide being considered a great dishonor in Viking culture - until Hiccup talks her out of it.
  • Running Gag: The running gag regarding dragon-proof restraints and dragons (and the dragon hunters who make them) working their way backwards starts here.
Hiccup: If we can't blast the chains... blast the winches!
Dagur: What good are dragon-proof chains without dragon-proof WINCHES?!
  • Save the Villain: Hiccup does this at the end not because of Thou Shalt Not Kill, but rather because he knows that Heather killing her own brother would create more problems than it would solve, namely that she'd be committing fratricide.
  • Ship Tease:
    • Heather and Astrid go on a "date" involving axe-throwing and jumping off cliffs.
    • After Heather leaves, Hiccup tells Astrid he's sorry she's losing a friend, to which she replies, "But I still have you." Cue them staring into the sunset.
  • Wham Line: Hiccup delivers one to Heather after he sees the carving on her horn.
Hiccup: This is my father’s Chief seal!
Heather: …Stoick’s seal is carved in my horn? What are you saying?!
Hiccup: I’m saying years ago, Stoick gave this horn to the Chief of the Berserker tribe, Oswald the Agreeable, as a gift for his newborn daughter!
  • You Said You Would Let Them Go: A heroic example in this case, when the riders only agree to help Heather if they could capture Dagur, not kill him. Heather points out that he didn't "capture" her parents and plans to return the favor.
