Recap / Dragons Riders Of Berk S 2 E 2 The Iron Gronckle

Go To

While searching for Outcast ships, Snotlout makes it clear he thinks that Fishlegs and Meatlug are The Load. Fishlegs then volunteers to stay behind and in a fit of depression he and Meatlug binge on Comfort Food, berries and rocks respectively. Gobber while helping Meatlug with her subsequent stomachache finds that her resulting lava vomit has some unusual properties. Meanwhile, the Outcast ships are checking on the Whispering Death eggs.

Tropes:

  • Call-Back: The Outcasts are checking on the Whispering Death eggs and manage to lose the riders.
  • Casual Danger Dialogue: Hiccup apologizes to Fishlegs while dangling from Meatlug, upside down. Fishlegs has to tell him to be quiet so he can focus on tickling Meatlug to get her to release the magnetic substances.
  • Comfort Food: Berries for Fishlegs, various rocks for Meatlug.
  • Continuity Nod: Another rider takes Toothless out, to rescue Hiccup. Unlike Stoick, however, Fishlegs is happy to cooperate with Toothless for "more night, less fury".
  • Desperately Seeking A Purpose In Life: Fishlegs after he voluntarily leaves the team. It's why he helps Gobber out with the Gronckle iron.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Hiccup while trying to calm down Meatlug has forgotten that she's attracting a lot of magnetic item, and his metal leg is magnetic.
  • The Load: Snotlout calls Fishlegs and Meatlug this. It ends up getting subverted, since Fishlegs is good at tracking the team's positions and Meatlug can hover in mid-air.
  • Never My Fault: Snotlout has the gall to blame Hiccup and Astrid for kicking Fishlegs off the team, even though he was the one who called the duo The Load and Fishlegs volunteered to stay behind.
  • No Plans, No Prototype, No Backup: Because the first Gronckle Iron formula was made by accident, Fishlegs and Gobber have a lot of trouble recreating it. Later averted; in Race for the Edge Fishlegs eventually reverse engineers it from a Dragon Hunter recipe.
  • Precocious Crush: One young customer, a little girl, asks for Fishlegs to autograph her helmet.
  • Villain Ball: Savage ordering his men to shoot down Meatlug and Hiccup. They were on a stealth mission and had evaded the riders; taking a dragon for its head exposed them to the metal load that Meatlug carried plus the other riders.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: Meatlug vomiting out lava.
  • Wham Shot: The large hole that one Whispering Death has left.
  • Worthless Yellow Rocks: While trying to recreate Gronckle Iron, Gobber uses a formula of pure sandstone and makes glass. He deems it useless and throws it aside, complete with the classic shattering noise.
  • Wrecked Weapon: After Astrid deems it too light and therefore too fragile, Gobber demonstrates Gronckle Iron's superiority to period iron by cutting Snotlout's sword in half.
