This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Broken Pedestal: Gosalyn when she discovers that Bianca Beakley is The Bugsmaster
    Gosalyn: My idol's a crook!
  • Evil Counterpart: Bianca Beakley towards Darkwing. They both love the spotlight, have big egos, have short temper, love theatrics, steal ideas from their assistants, and have no actual powers. Lampshaded by Gosalyn:
Drake: Good job, Gos. Too bad you had to find out your idol was just a rotten self-centered egomaniac interested only in cheap publicity.
Gosalyn: Hey, don't be so hard on yourself dad!
Drake: I was talking about Bianca Beakley!
  • Evil Pays Better: Beakley initially turns to crime just to boost her ratings, but gets into it as it turns out to pay better than her job as a reporter.
  • Funny Background Event: When Bianca arrives to film Darkwing's latest crime bust, he gives an interview while ignoring Launchpad fighting the crooks in the background.
  • If It Bleeds, It Leads: The very reason Beakley turns to crime is to boost her news report ratings since bigger crimes bring more attention.
  • Immoral Journalist: Bianca Beakley starts out as a bad-tempered anchor who yells at her crew and steals their ideas. She escalates to supervillainy to boost ratings and decides to stick with it because Evil Pays Better.
  • Ironic Echo Cut: Darkwing happily watches all the news coverage he's been getting from Bianca's show, and then disappointedly remarks that nobody else will take an interest in it; they'll want to see him stopping real crime. The scene then cuts to Bianca, ranting about the same thing.
  • Literal Ass-Kicking: Gosalyn attacks the Bugmaster and her minions by shooting them in the butts with the Bugmaster's gun.
  • Stealing the Credit: When Bianca and her news crew arrive in the middle of a crime bust, Darkwing takes the opportunity to give a self-congratulatory interview, letting Launchpad do all the work of taking down the crooks and only giving him a cursory mention at the end of his speech.
