Recap / Camp Camp With Friends Like These

Go To

David gets hooked onto social media, while Max, Nikki and Neil start to wonder if the other kids really like them.

  • Bait-and-Switch: Nikki mentions that Dolph realized he needed a new look because he finally noticed that he looked a little too similar to a well-known historical figure… Charlie Chaplin. Then Nikki says that she’s glad it happened cause he looked like Hitler and they were all really getting tired of that.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Max, Nikki, and Neil exclaim "WHAT!?" when Gwen points out that the summer and their time at Camp Campbell is ending in a week.
  • By the Hair: To help get David to stand up, Max callously pulls his hair.
  • Call-Back:
  • Facepalm: Due to being stressed, Gwen facepalms after David says he just read that birds aren't real.
  • Flipping the Bird:
    • A couple times Nurf gives Neil, Max, and Nikki the finger out of contempt which seems to be done to insult them. However, he later gives them the middle finger and it seems to be done affectionately.
    • Gwen flips off Camp Campbell (in which she had her much-hated job as a camp councilor at) with both hands on the final day of camp.
  • Half Way Plot Switch: At first, it seems like an episode about friendship, with the main trio becoming overly sensitive to being liked, while David becomes too focused on social media. Halfway through, that topic is resolved, the rest of the episode focuses on the end of summer, with Max and David coming to terms with it.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Preston, the second-loudest camper, criticizes Nikki for being loud.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: In Nikki's letter to her mom, she mentions how it feels like it's been years.... since she wrote to her mom last.
  • Opening Shout-Out: The Good-Times Montage consist of altered stills from the Long List in the intro, with the campers taking part in the activities mentioned.
  • Ripped from the Headlines: David mentions fake news, a flat Earth and other silly things that have gone viral thanks to social media and the Internet.
  • Series Fauxnale: This special initially seems like it could be the end of the series, with Summer coming to an end, the campers all going home, Max and David coming to an understanding, and Gwen leaving the camp after being offered new jobs. However, new episodes are confirmed for the series.
  • The Other Darrin: Max, Gwen, and Nerris all got new voice actors starting in this episode. The change is very obvious, in all three cases.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: As a result of a video of her going viral, Gwen gets a job offer for a writing project that's perfect for her love of slash fiction despite her usually being a Butt-Monkey.
  • Wham Line: After Max says that David owing money to a "friend" online will be resolved next week, and the credits roll, Gwen pipes up with, "What are you talking about?" (Record Needle Scratch, episode restarts) "We're not doing anything next week."
    Max: What? Says who?
Gwen: Says the calendar. Didn't you know? It's the last week of summer camp.
