Recap / Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command E 27 The Crawling Flesh

Go To

The twenty-fourth episode of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, in which Zurg's Brain Pods invent a gas that morphs anyone who comes in contact with it into blobs, and Buzz and Mira are its first victims.

"The Crawling Flesh" contains examples of:

  • Body Horror: Even with the Nightmare Retardant (e.g. the blob-making gas making a farting noise as it’s pumped into the chamber, victims burping before they transform), the transformation sequence is still horrific. Mira begins to melt, and then a sludge-like substance bursts out of Buzz's suit. His glove falls off and more of the stuff leaks out of it. The last thing Buzz attempts to do before he and Mira are completely transformed is turn to bang his fist against the glass.
  • Couch Gag: In the CGI intro before the opening sequence, Zurg fires his blaster at the TV.
  • Employee of the Month: Brain Pod 26, who invented the blob-making gas.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Two instances at the eulogy for Buzz and Mira, who everyone believes have been eaten by the Blob Monster created by Zurg (which is actually them):
Commander Nebula: Now Buzz and Mira wouldn't want any tears. They knew a ranger's job is a dangerous one, and if you boys and girls can't take the cold hard facts of their demise, well then I suggest you run home to your mamas! YOU GOT THAT? (Beat, then he bursts into tears) Why take Buzz? WHY BUZZ? WHY? WHYYYYY?
Booster: Buzz and Mira knew to respect every living creature, no matter how strange or hideous. (Buzz and Mira, still mutated, fall out of a vent into the middle of the crowd) IT'S THE STRANGE HIDEOUS CREATURE THAT ATE BUZZ AND MIRA! (opens fire)
  • Mistaken for Own Murderer: Everyone thinks Buzz and Mira have been eaten up by a Blob Monster, not knowing that it's actually them.
  • Two Beings, One Body: Those next to one another will be fused into a single blob.
    • Mind Hive: Blob Monsters formed from two or more people have the same number of eyestalks and as many tongues, and whoever form the same blob can still "talk" to each other mentally.
